OK this is bullsh*t. There were 608 passengers involved in this incident. $27,500 per passenger x 608 passengers is $16,720,000. And they are only being hit with a $900,000 fine? $1480 per passenger???? And why does the government get most of it? They didn't suffer at all, the passengers did. Here's what the rule should be: If airlines violate the rule they need to give $27,500 directly to each passenger. THAT would make them stop this sh*t and passengers will be BEGGING to be delayed.

They're hipster hipsters. They're meta-hipsters.

Subby meant American Apparel perhaps? AE is preppy stuff that is cheaper than Hollister surfer preppy stuff and way cheaper than A&F preppy stuff.

A person between the ages of 16 and 28 that wears clothing that I do not wear, likes music that I do not like, or has hobbies that I do not share.

I think subby is confusing American Eagle with American Apparel. Some people just want to hate hipsters...

/I guess I can see why

2011-11-14 11:14:52 AM
The article says it's OK for airline companies to allow passengers to sit 3 hours on the tarmac. 4 hours if it's international. All I fly now is international and I can tell you, add four hours to an already 13-15 hour flight and it's a literal pain in the ass. Are they allowing passengers time to walk a little during the 'down' time or is the seat belt light on during this stay? Ten minutes is long enough wait for me.
People want to start bullshiating when that plane sits around. I hate visiting on a plane.

These fines are ridiculous. Instead of risking a fine, the airlines are simply cancelling flights, which inevitably lead to more delays. Just another muck up by Obama, whose trying his damnedest to out suck Jimmy Carter as the worst president ever. And why are passengers whining? So you had to sit and wait for a few hours, big farking deal. Drive next time if you're so concerned about it.

No hipster worth a damn wears AE. If a hipster were to wear AE, they would cease being one.

Isn't American Eagle just the cheap version of Abercrombie & Fitch, which is just training clothes for those who wear Brooks Bros. when they get older, which, as we all know, is just about as preppy as you can get, or have things changed?

Brooks Brothers Boys, it's like the cuts are slimmer, and it's cheaper. Win win.

I came here to say just this. Though there is the caveat that BB used to all be make its clothes in the US or GB, but not so much anymore; its status as a maker of fine clothes is on the decline.

As someone who had a bad experience with American Airlines a few days ago, I'm ok with this. Though my return flight went off without a hitch, so I'll give them that.

And I've said it before and will say it again, the constant misuse of the term "hipster" on this site continues to astound me. Though at this point it's probably on purpose.

In my experience with the Williamsburg hipsters the clothing must be recognizably ironic to be worn ironically- subtlety just isn't their thing.

A refresher (new window)(NSFW) on what hipsters look like.

How freakin' hard is it to grab a couple of those transport busses that are always zipping around the tarmac anyhow, grab a portable stairs or two, usher the plane passengers onto the busses from the plane and then drive them up to the terminal? You would think that this would be a no-brainer; but what do I know...

Wait wait wait, which upscale trendy clothing chain are we talking about?

Abercrombie Apparel?
Banana & Fitch?
Aeropostale Eagle?
Brooks & Dunn?
American Republic?

So the government gets $1,500 PER PERSON that was inconvenienced, but the actual people affected get some sort of credit towards a future flight and I can guarantee you it is not $1,500 worth.

What's wrong with this?

-2 points.

-1 because American Eagle is ugly, "preppy" clothing
-1 for using "hipster" on Fark when that word has lost all meaning

They don't belong to the airport, or they aren't available, or there aren't enough of them

I bet they cost less than this fine, tho, which is the point of the law in the first place. I bet if I had one I'd be jockeying to be allowed to get into the airport emergency customer evacuation business, especially with the busy holiday travel season coming up.

I see a potential work-around here. Have a drop-off gate, just get the passengers off, then taxi the plane to the other gate for loading the next flight. During taxi the crew can begin cleaning the cabin, etc.

I would much rather be dropped off at the furthest end of where I needed to be with too much luggage and too many kids then sitting stuck on an aircraft.

Obvious there would be multiple drop-off gates, but the whole point is get them off and move it. The 3-hour sitting time should be an empty plane pluse the crew just waiting to load up again and getting ready.

I think they make the best dress shirt around, I used to order Charles Tyrwhitt, but I like BB much better. The non-ridiculous, made to order suits are cheap and can be bought anywhere anymore, the crazy expensive ones are still nice. And I just love their ties.

AE clothing was big with younger lesbians (20's-30's). I have no stats to back that up. It was just observation. I never liked it as they put a big logo on everything. Even old navy does much less of that then they did in the past.
