Inducted before Matchbox? This is an outrage!

So are you trying to say that the Real Doll (R) is there too?!

It's nice to see Michael Jackson's kid finally get some recognition.

Good to see the Hot Wheels/Matchbox wars continue.

Yes, because before HotWheels, Matchbox cars were lame.

A few yards of orange track and low friction wheels on sprung axles made Hot Wheels awesome.

Hot Wheels, dollhouse, blanket, mummified corpse, all you need for a fun weekend.

2011-11-14 12:45:49 PM
Just to let you know, I have both those cars in the above post.

It is an atrocity that it took this long for Hot Wheels to be inducted!

Certainly not when the entrant car models are so unfairly varied. There were a lot of crazy awesome Matchboxes and a lot of super-clunky Hot Wheels family trucksters too, but I'mm too lazy to hotlink after 3 seconds of GISing.

On a side note, is LEGO in there yet?

Parallax: On a side note, is LEGO in there yet?

Yes it was one of the inaugural class of toys in 1998.

Point being, In 1968 when Hot Wheels came out, Matchboxes were stodgy things without 'fast' wheels, just skinny plastic wheeels on thich riveted solid axles, no concept or custom cars, - a few race cars, sure. Flat paint.

Wouldn't roll. Certainly not down a track.

The came back soon enough, with Matchbox "Superfast" cars, whech were very like Hot Wheels.

I loved all my Hotwheels when I was a kid but to be fair, my parents would yell louder when stepping on the clunky/sharp edged Matchbox cars.

This is a ball attached to a string, which is attached to a cup. You throw the ball, let it swing on the string, and catch it in the cup. If you fail to catch the ball in the cup, just swing it again! It requires no batteries! Play alone and with your friends! And clean-up's as easy as catching a ball in a cup!

Glad to see that "stick" made it in already. Now we just have to wait for "log". Not Lincoln Logs which are there but good old LOG.

How long has this place existed that they don't already have Hot Wheels and the doll house inducted yet?

Well, we were going to do Hot Wheels ten years ago, but we went with "Hungry Hungry Hippos" instead.

My all time favorite. Had one when they originally came out in '68.

As someone who is rebuilding his HW and matchbox superfast collection, much to the boredom of the wife, I am getting a kick out of this thread.

Never liked Hot Wheels. The fat treadless wheels made them look dorky, and the racetracks were just shiny stuff for ADHD kids.
I much preferred Matchbox. I still have a fairly complete Models of Yesteryear collection.
