MannaxOne: No, no liberal bias at NBC what so ever.

FTFA: "Ms. Clinton will become the second daughter of a president hired by NBC News, and the third daughter of a recent presidential candidate. Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of President George W. Bush, works as a correspondent for NBC's "Today" show, and Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, is a contributor to MSNBC."

Yep...totally a liberal bias...

more like nepotism. Gotta keep the crotchfruit of Americas Nobility well employed with high paying, low labor jobs now....

I know many of you probably wouldn't, but that is one jack-o-lantern I would have intercourse with.

2011-11-14 06:44:22 AM
Chelsea was my first guess.
This could be interesting.

Meh. Chelsea got a 6-figure consulting job right out of college, it's not like she was hurting for work.

/Plus they have all that Whitewater money, amirite?

Hey, she's going to be reporting on "people who are making volunteer commitments to improve the lives of others in their community" - typical liberal claptrap. You need to balance it out with a solid conservative voice on how community organizations waste taxpayer dollars / promote atheism / abortions. Unless we're talking about churches, of course, because churches are sacred institutions.

She was on c-span this weekend.

Pretty impressive lil gal!

P funk band.

Is she still married?

So remember, all you struggling journalists - if you bust a hump, sit through 10 years' worth of tedious zoning board meetings, get to know every mover and shaker in a hundred-mile radius, learn how to placate every moron and lunatic who calls the newsroom, win tons of awards in your field and put aside all thoughts of having a normal adult life and a diet consisting of something other than bagels mooched from the sales department...

...you, too, can have somebody rich and famous waltz in and steal your gig.

TFA: One person close to Ms. Clinton said she had been quietly raising her profile for some time

Quietly raising her profile? WTF does that even mean?

2011-11-14 07:43:29 AM
Meh. She's young, attractive, and comes with name recognition already.

2011-11-14 07:52:42 AM

Subtle_Canary: more like nepotism. Gotta keep the crotchfruit of Americas Nobility well employed with high paying, low labor jobs now....

Exactly. This is a sinecure for the daughter of a powerful and prestigious family, not evidence that NBC is in the DNC's pocket. I mean hell, look at her conversation with Mr. Capus: have any of you ever had an employment interview that started with your potential boss asking you "What are you interested in doing?", and then, due to a single vague remark, turned into a discussion of how they could justify paying you to occasionally do work tangential to some second-rate project they have? Heck, for that matter how many of you have even had a friend mention you were looking for work to an employer and -without asking to see credentials or previous work- you immediately got a call asking to speak with you about it? The upper-crust of the US is and has long been incestuous and nepotistic.

It's the perfect place for her.

It's not like anyone is ever going to see or pay any attention to her over there.

aearra: Yet another untrained "journalist" based solely on name appeal. It isn't the Nonsense Broadcasting Corp. for nothing.

She has a B.A. in history from Stanford, a master's in international relations from Oxford, and a master's in public health from Columbia.

She may not have a degree in journalism, but that's a lot to bring to the table.

2011-11-14 08:11:58 AM
I can sort of vaguely understand the conservative butthurt hatred of Hillary and Bill Clinton -- they've actually accomplished things -- but Chelsea? It's obvious that people just hate her because of who her parents are. She hasn't done anything worthy of the hatred of the right wing authoritarians yet. Give her some time, sure, maybe.

It'd be like if I directed hate at Jenna Bush. Except what I really feel is something closer to pity, because great things are expected of her because of her family, but she's obviously not that smart or ambitious. Really, I feel mostly apathy toward the Bush kids -- whatever they want to try to do, that's okay. If they get into politics, that'll be a different story.

Yes, but she's not hot like Meghan McCain or Jenna Bush. So, by conservative standards, she doesn't have that much to bring to the table. Seriously, have you ever seen an unattractive anchor or correspondent or pundit on Fox News, other than Greta Van Susteren?

Exactly. She's been raising her profile by not talking about it or doing any work at all worth noticing in any way. Quite the self-promoter, that one. I'm sure in Hell the shade of H.L. Mencken is wiping bourbon-laced newshound-tears from his luminescent cheek as we speak, thinking over all the years of hard, tireless work that she -like he- sacrificed from her youth arduously learning the journalist trade and honing her writing to an atom-edge. No doubt the effort she has put in to her Cronkitian Ambition has moved the tiny, bitter souls of the entire yellow-journaling, muck-raking, story-sniffing world. No doubt we will all be able to expect positively Murrowish - nay Sinclairian- accomplishments from such a well-known and dedicated social critic and moral gadfly as Ms. Chelsea Clinton.

True, but did she actually earn any of that? I happen to know from personal experience over at UT that neither of the Bush twins did the work for their degrees. Having the right name and the right parents gets you all sorts of things.

i actually agree on this. but she's not airhead hot like mccain and bush. That's the kind of hot that appeals to the right -- even if they are smart, they look like bimbos, which makes conservatives feel a little more comfortable with the smartness. chelsea looks sort of like that intellectual hotness. like the girls in my english classes that wouldn't even look at me. the slutty stupid ones would at least flirt. the intellectual hot ones knew that i was scum.

In this case I think it's not just that her parents are politicians, it's that her parents are famous and controversial. Thus, they know people will tune in to watch her, whether it's to hate her or out of curiosity. It's all about ratings, just like always.

Did it bug anybody else that the entire article she was referred to as Ms. Clinton? I'm pretty sure i remember there being a big deal made about her wedding last year. Did she get divorced and we never heard anything about it?

It can go either way:
BAD: (sorry that these all come from one source, but they are the first three I can think of...)
Palin
Huckabee
North

GOOD:
Russert
Stephenopoulos
Pete Williams

some women keep their name when they marry. particularly women who have published or whose name recognition is important for their careers.

the more you know.

She is presentable, articulate and educated. She has a famous name. That will get you in the door. But if she doesn't make ratings, she won't be there long. NBC is taking a chance, but she has to make the numbers like everybody else, or they will pull the plug. They are not running a charity over there.

Personally, I think she'll crash and burn. She never seemed very interesting or charismatic.

Agreed. Anything a news station does any more is for ratings. They don't aim for respect, or quality, or accuracy. Just ratings.

It's up to us to make sure that quality = ratings.
