Actually, around here there are quite a few homeless who are, well I wouldn't call them handsome or pretty, but likely would clean up well.

Look up the annual reports of some of the largest public companies. They often have pictures of board members and senior executives. One of the things you'll probably notice ( other than nearly everyone is white) is that there aren't very many good looking people. In fact, I'd say they're less attractive than the general population. A possible reason is that maybe a lot of them are old, but even among the younger ones, you don't see too many good looking people running companies. Are all the successful, productive, good looking people opting for self employment? Or is the author's conclusion bullshiat?

Maybe it only works until middle management. For senior management in a large company of course the first priority is that you have to be ruthless sociopath. I read a study once that concluded that executives tend to be taller than average though.

I believe that beautiful people are more successful; first of all people like to be around happy, confident, goodlooking people. If two people with equal qualifications apply for a job, the most beautiful person will get it without doubt.

Secondly, I think goodlooking people tend to be more confident and more happy, since they have been popular all their lives, and these qualities (being happy, confident and goodlooking) of course reinforce eachother.

I think the real trick is exuding confidence which usually comes easier for naturally beautiful people.

I think that being beautiful bolsters your success to a point. Let's say "upper middle management." At some stage, you hit the "people in power don't want to let someone better looking than them into the circle" phase, and I imagine your looks become something you actually have to overcome. However, just because you're not a senior VP or a board member doesn't mean you're not successful, does it?

There's something deeply flawed in the empiricism of this study. It's almost as if there's something on which the whole argument hinges that is dependent on some vague, arbitrary and relative factor.
