There is a reason "tourist" and "terrorist" sound so much alike in Florida. It's sheer terror every time I have to go out in the wild during tourist season down here.

I was thinking that the article was going to be about the new Twilight movie.

Which are you?

They're everywhere down here. Lots of Q-Tips over here in the SWFL side. It's nice that they're here spending money, but the roads are starting to clog up with them. Driving has gotten a lot more dangerous around here in the past couple of weeks...

The best snowbird song ever from Jonathan Brandmeir. He used to work at KZZP in Phoenix in the 80's and had made fun of the snowbirds coming to AZ. One year and this old man got teed off and kept calling in to harass him. Link

Holy crap, I remember that guy and that station from when I was a kid.
I was all surprised when I moved to Florida to hear about Snowbirds. I always thought it was an Arizona exclusive thing.
/yes, sadly, I have lived in AZ and FL.
//could be worse, I suppose.

"Florida is a southern state, but it's not southern"

There's a migratory path of an Illinois version that winters in Arizona. They usually leave for their summer nests after Spring Training.

This ritual helps aid the "Florida" tag in staying relevant through the long winter months.

No doubt. I'd just like to see a restriction on the hours of their migration. Kind of like the HOV lane rules that are only in effect during peak hours. That would be great. Where I live, one weekend it will take you 20 minutes to get through the grocery store on a Saturday morning, then all of a sudden, it takes an hour - no exaggeration. And drive time to work increases exponentially.

ah, finally. now our streets will calm down again. I love it when they leave. I dread their return in March/April.

I once visited Florida during March, in a particularly cold, nasty late winter weather spell. It was in the high 50s/low 60s in Tampa/St. Petersburg when I got there. It was a blessed relief for me. I was wearing shorts and a wind breaker. The natives were all Michelin Men and gawking at me. "Ainchu co-old, mister?"

me: "Huh? Cold? No way, this is nice compared to back home."

they did not believe me

And now dinner time is officially rolled back to 4:30 pm and restaurant prices have to be increased to offset the demanded senior citizen discount.

I thought tourism was one of the key parts of Florida's economy along with drug smuggling and Medicare fraud.
