Great video, but I had to mute the music. It sounded like wet, cracking knuckles or something; gave me the willies.

I'd like to see Disneyland, or one of the major theme parks develop this kind of footage into a ride. Disney already does something similar with California Adventure, I'd love to see what they'd do with stuff like this.

At this time of year? A this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?

What surprised me the most was the amount of lightning strikes that were visible. I realize this was time-lapse, but still. Wow.

I am generally less impressed than phil (Who doubtless exclaims 'oh god! come quick honey! you have to see this! every time he takes a crap) by the ISS stuff but damn.. this one is amazing.. wow.

The coolest things I liked about it was seeing other satellites flying by, and watching the constellation Orion rise.

2011-11-13 09:01:14 PM
The moon's reflection in the water at 2:50 was pretty cool, as was Orion rising.

Parallax: Great video, but I had to mute the music. It sounded like wet, cracking knuckles or something; gave me the willies.

Seriously, crappy music.

I just muted it and used this one (new window) as background music instead, a bit cliche but is good.

bonus: that video is pretty amazing too.

RoosterCogburn: What's with the green glow around the Earth?

FTA ...or the thin glowing arc above the horizon: airglow, caused by molecules in the upper atmosphere slowly emitting light as they release energy accumulated during the day.

is that an antimatter shield to protect us from the greys? :)~

2011-11-13 09:47:33 PM
Wow. Just wow.

If I ever go into orbit it better be for vacation. I'd get no work done. I'd sit and watch the Earth scroll by beneath me for hours.

Someone get high on something, get their webcam, and record themselves watching this. Please. For the children.

Parallax: Great video, but I had to mute the music. It sounded like wet, cracking knuckles or something; gave me the willies.

Yeah, it sounded like someone was deliberately recreating the sound of plugging in a guitar without turning off the channel, over and over and over, with no idea where the beat was supposed to fall.

Very cool, I didn't know such a thing existed tbh. Thanks for the airglow link and the correction. I'll sheepishly admit to not reading the article and jumping right through the link to watch the HD version.

No, it's the slave shield the Ur-Quan are building to contain us Terrans.

Maybe I am wrong but the air glow color (green) looks to be the same or very close to that of most of the aurora. Why is that? Are they both from the de-excitation of the same molecule?

Hey, does anyone know what the green glowy stuff is?
