Rated Arg for Pirates.

The Immortals was decent but nothing special. The best scenes involved the Gods getting into the fight but there were only a couple of them. The other fight scenes were pretty bland and generic.

2011-11-13 01:54:49 PM
The gods' fight scenes alone are worth the ticket price. It's something you have to see on the big screen.

Also: I weep for the future.

Apollo vs the mortals was awesome. Gods vs generic monsters where everyone moved at varying speeds? Bad.

The ending with the super brawl on infinite planes? Horrendous.

It is strange that you'd call it a piece of shiat because every movie is made with Stoli n coke as the target audient. Just like all musicians are writing their music to appeal to you.

So why did you go to see this movie?

No need to see it. Caught it on HBO a few years ago when it was called Norbit and it had a black guy in it. It sucked then, too.

You should have a blog writing about bad movies, maybe sell t-shirts and bumper stickers. Soon you'd have legions of people praising you from saving their time and money and from having their own thoughts and experiences.

I have nothing against Sandler movies; it's not like he's ever tried, particularly, to be "highbrow" when making films--they is what they is. This one, from the promos, just seemed excessively puerile and pointless, and I think he's pretty much trapped in his own aesthetic/shtick.

I am glad, though, that he's putting Mayim Bialik back to work--I always thought her work on Blossom was underrated. :)

I won't be seeing The Immortals in the theater. To me, it's trying to capture the 300 crowd, but without the manly lead actor. His voice just doesn't compare to Gerard Butler's man-voice on the manliness scale.

Gerry's manly growl is pretty impressive, and damn if that man didn't have one fark-off beard.

My beef with Immortals is that they could have done more with the storyline, especially with that cast. I like blood, guts, and fight scenes as much as the next red-blooded woman, but c'mon, the action audience can deal with a little complexity.

Immortals was a very visually stunning movie. Somewhere between a Greek Relief, a Renaissance painting, and a comic book. The story and acting is just average, but I still think the movie is worth seeing, even if just on Netflix.

I think J&J looks completely awful and I *do* question why people would go see it. On that note, movies are primarily made for entertainment purposes, and if people find this entertaining who am I to say they're wrong?

When people take it so personally that a certain film does well over another I can't help but laugh. They're farking *movies*.

Big American FX movies make a shiat ton of money overseas so it's not like it's just Hollywood jacking itself off. There's a demand for what we do.

I haven't seen either film but as an (admittedly small time) FX guy, Immortals at least looks like it has production values behind it, which while not a substitute for story, does have some value. I can't see anything that would make me allow myself to be dragged to Jack and Jill, even within the context of a low brow comedy.

agreed. if you paid money to see jack and jill, you are part of the farking problem and need to be purged. there is NO reason to spend 2 hours watching that idiot pretend he is funny any longer; much like Eddie Murphy, the Sandler train is farking over.

I honestly don't know. He has to be trolling, it's the only explanation I can come up with.

The thing is this - Hollywood and the weekend releases are not your only choices for movies. There are plenty of films out there, and there's something for everyone. If you don't like what Hollywood is offering, just go elsewhere and find something else. It's there, and it's waiting. I have found that every now and then Hollywood will surprise you, but for the most part if you want something a little more stimulating than a couple hours of easy escapism you are pretty much fighting a losing battle.

Jack and Jill was friggin' hilarious. The only reason people are down on it is because of that George C Scott spoof video that came out months back. The only problem i had with the film is that it wasn't historically accurate.

I think the shait in the politics tab has exceeded the overflow level and has spilled into the Entertainment tab. Someone hit the release\drain valve STAT!!!

That said, Immortals looks like a far better movie just for the sake of originality.
"But Canis" you say, "there's nothing original about Hollywood today at all". To which I would retort that while you may be technically accurate, in this example you would be wrong. Jack and Jill relys on the underlying theme of a Man dressing as a Woman and experiencing life as the opposite sex to produce it's humor - How many of these damn movies have we seen in the last decade? Too farking many to count. Immortals relies upon the conflict of Man vs. God and God vs. God for it's conflict and there have been surprisingly few of those movies to come out in the last decade.

So yea, Immortals gets my vote and I can't wait to peep it.

Well on the talent spectrum, I'll put the men and women who can operate Maya and AfterEffects over the guy who can make goofy faces and cross dress any day. Didn't say they'll command a higher salary, just saying.

I saw 300 and the cinematography was pretty good, then I saw 300 again a few times on cable and it didn't age well.

Then the farking History Channel copied that shiat ad nauseum. It is now the most annoying thing I've ever seen.

Now bringing out a new movie with the same shiatty art style? No way I'm seeing that.

Hell, even bullet time didn't get so abused.

Very true, I guess I should have said, "If for no other reason than originality." leaving the door open for other reasons.
