If CDG is not #1, the list fails . . .

Carry on.

I don't hate my local airport, with its single jet-capable runway, single ~8-gate concourse, single security checkpoint, rental cars 50 feet from the terminal, 10-minute curb-to-gate and 5-minute gate-to-curb times, and TSA who recognize me and welcome me back from trips.

Being able to get flights to more than 4 other destinations would be nice, though...

Most big airports suck. Especially ones here in the United States of Bad Airport Design.

LAX has one of the worst designs. God forbid you have to change carriers on a multi-leg flight. You'll possibly have to exit the "secured" area and re-enter somewhere else..

CDG is a hateful airport. It has a confusing layout, irregular bus service between terminals, and angry employees.

One CDG experience that stands out, I went in the restroom to take of some business at a urinal when without warning a woman janitor came in to mop the floor. She slapped a wet mop down on the floor, and proceeded to mop the area around my urinal, slapping my heels along the way.

Possibly? POSSIBLY? Unless they're partners and close ones at that, you'll almost definitely have to do so.

The same is true at O'Hare. And JFK. One way Philadelphia doesn't suck any more, now that they've build "air-side" walkways between the terminals.

Oh, and of course, if you're coming back from outside the country, after you go through customs, you're no longer in the secure area, so you get to go back through security as well. Whee.

There is a very large homeless population living at CDG. They almost blend in during the day, pushing around luggage carts stacked high with their worldly possessions. During the night, however, the place looks like a farking homeless shelter. Don't spend the night, unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO. There is a 45 euro/night hotel a short shuttle ride away.

It's a scary place after dark.

Miami is like that... grumble grumble grumble... Word to the wise, if you buy something in the Duty-Free shop that won't make it through TSA (such as a large bottle of liquor) make sure you move it to your checked luggage in Customs, or else you just paid 100 bucks to take a bottle of really nice Jamaican Rum on a quick airplane ride.

I go to JKIA twice a year, it's not that bad. One terrible airport that get's little mention is Milan Malpensa

I don't mind CDG or LAX that much. They're two of the busiest airports in the world; they're bound to have some issues. They're both better than Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is an experiment run by aliens to see how much we'll put up with before going crazy.

Amsterdam is also pretty bad. Last time we flew into Amsterdam they nearly had a major crowd control issue on their hands. Our fully-loaded 747 disgorged all its passengers into a passport control room at the bottom of two escalators. The room was far too small and filled to capacity while people were still on the escalators, on which people couldn't just stand and wait like in a hallway. It got to the point that people were screaming for the escalators to be turned off, which they thankfully were fairly quickly.

"You'd think it would be one of the greatest humiliations any major airport (JFK Airport) would never allow itself to live down -- getting routinely abandoned by fed-up folks opting to fly out of Newark (Newark!) instead, where at least the ground staff cop less attitude and fewer people outside are pretending to be cab drivers. "

Once through JFK was enough for me. I never want to take another connecting flight out of there. Those TSA agents are really rude, particularly the ones working the International gates. Screaming orders at a traveler who may not understand English well does not make things move faster. And you're working a security gate not a cell block on Rikers, so calm down.

I didn't think CDG was all that bad. I really liked Amsterdam's Schiphol's airport. Friendly people, and their security people don't treat you like crap.

How could I forget Miami? Worst airport in the US by far. No decent restaurants and I had an easier time finding English-speaking employees at airports in Spain than I did in Miami.

(Note: I love that our country is a melting pot and I want it to ring with the sound of a thousand languages, but from a business perspective, why would you hire someone who doesn't speak English to work in the service industry of an airport where the majority of people traveling through it speak English?)

Yet ATL is busier than both and doesn't suffer those issues.

I've always wondered if the hate towards Atlanta has more to do with it being the hub of Delta Airlines than the physical facility itself. When I've been there it was easy to get around in the airport and to and from it (yes - I know Atlanta has bad traffic but almost every US airport has that problem). It certainly did not come across as bad as any of the ones on the list.

On my average trip through LAX I have to leave the secured area in order to get to my next plane, ask for directions from a disinterested asshole who ignores me to gossip with dude next to him, walk eight and a half miles past all the shiat that's been under construction since the 70s, get hit up for cash by dudes with airport uniforms, wait to go through security again in a line that snakes all the way out the door onto a rusted as bridge, and finally get through only to realize that I've been pointed in the wrong direction and none of the 27 people who checked my ID and ticket told me about it.

Honestly, I think people hate ATL because if you are there, it means you are in Atlanta, which is a horrible, horrible place to be.

I am not a big fan of MKE, bad road layouts into and out of the airport, really bad dark parking nearby. MSY seemed really dirty overall inside with a weird road layout around the area. MSP is well laid out, long commuter concourse, but since the remodel it is light, airy, and a decent place to fly out of (except the prices). Some of the best I have been in are regional hubs with a few gates. ICT is easy to get in and out of, MOB is not that bad, and GFK and LSE with two gates and ground parking outside area are not that bad.

I found the Prague airport is tiny enough to be easily navigable. Just a warning not to take ANY of the cabs waiting outside the airport, most likely the driver will rip you off. Radio AAA taxi is the most honest and most travelers there recomment you call dispatch to have a cab sent to you.

Or if you have a lot of luggage you can arrange to pay for a van shuttle ride (Tripadvisor Prague forums has a list of good ones). Otherwise just ride the Metro. Even though you have to buy a train ticket for large luggage (?), the Metro covers everywhere and the fares are cheap.

It certainly is on my list, especially if I'm flying in from the states and connecting to a domestic flight. If we have to fly to YYZ, we try to fly from somewhere else in Canada. I'm jealous of my family in the Northeast, 'cause they can go through YTZ and avoid the whole mess....

I hate flying into Sky Harbor in Phoenix. That is my most hated airport in America. My favorite is Denver.I can get a coffee and smoke a cigarette without having to go through security again.

7. John F. Kennedy International Airport

They went through Terminals 2, 3, and 7. Those are the worst. At least Terminal 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9 look brand new. They should have gone through LaGuardia instead which is absolutely the worst airport in the country. CDG and Heathrow are the lesser of two evils when going to Europe and I went to CDG. Both are supposed to act as destination airports just like LAX and not hub airports compared to Atlanta which has Chick-Fil-A to fill your need at Concourse A or O'Hare.

In my travels, I have only found two airports that has free wifi, my home airport Port Columbus International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport. I should go to San Francisco International next year.

Kingston, Jamaica should be there. Nothing like an international airport without jetways or air conditioning. Yes, no air conditioning in Jamaica.

Always fly to Montego Bay.

Before reading the article or the thread:

If LAX isn't on there, the list is bullshiat, and if no one here has mentioned it, you people don't travel enough.

After reading article and thread:

#2 on the list and mentioned in the third comment, not too shabby. I had to spend the night there once. I would have preferred a jail cell.

In terms of what though? There are many different categories with which to rank an airport, such as security hassle, delays, amenities, etc.

List needs O'Hare. Flights are rarely ever on time and constantly getting canceled.

CDG is literally a f*cking labrynth. There are almost no signs telling you what airlines are at each desk, where to go, etc.

And then the bizarre escalators running up through the middle of the donut -- it's like trying to figure out a puzzle in Tomb Raider.

Seriously, WTF is THIS:

This is what happens when an architect goes with style over function.

My worst experience was flying into El Paso. We landed on a dirt runway and had to walk a quarter mile to our terminal.

Let me give you an O'Hare complaint. Incredibly busy airport. Since it's Chicago lets of delays. Guess what? Not a single bar is open later than 10pm in the whole f'ing airport.

Why Newark? It's arguably the best of the three NYC area airports.

ANC is awesome. Friendly TSA, relatively short lines, small enough you don't get lost, and free wifi.

DEN is pretty nice. So is PDX. Something about SEA just turns me off. I'm not sure what.

Once had a bunch of gangsta-looking types on their way to Vegas buy me a shot of Patron at SFO. That was the single weirdest thing that has ever happened to me in my life.

Hate ORD. Friend once got an honest to God cockroach in her salad there.

My favorite airport experience is landing at Midway in Chicago.....every time you land on their super short runways you feel like you have cheated death when you arrive safely at the gate.

2011-11-13 05:59:03 PM
My local airport, Akron-Canton (CAK), is awesome. Free Wifi, friendly TSA, parking lot to gate in 20 minutes and one concourse. We can fly to ORD, MCO, DTW, ATL, DEN, or DCA. Also a lot cheaper than Cleveland Hopkins.

Also, a Great Lakes brewpub (past security).

Y'all are living blessed lives: you've never been to N'Djili in the DRC. Or any other airport in that country.

And then there's Entebbe, though the last time I was there our plane was held hostage by Idi Amin for three days.

And, as for U.S. airports Sky Harbor is indeed one of the worst. I sat at the gate for 60 minutes while United tried to get 25 people off the plane because it was too hot to take off with more than 110 people. By the time they got the 25 people off, the temperature had gone up another 10 degrees and they had to find another 20 people to offload. Needless to say, I missed my connection.

As someone from NYC I don't understand the JFK hate, LaGuardia is far worse. But then again I never have to make connections through JFK either since it's either the beginning or the end of my trip.

They currently expanding the security screening area, which will be able to accommodate 6 lanes, but they are going to have 4 open to start (they have 3 now). However, with the expansion of the security area, they are installing millimeter wave machines. (They currently have magnetometers.) One of the best parts of CAK's security was that some random TSA agent wasn't taking a picture of my junk and that sadly will be no more.
