That is way cool!

2011-11-12 06:52:34 PM
He does a pretty good job on that song.

The rolled up washcloth in his chonies was pretty funny.

2011-11-12 07:01:21 PM
Damn, I loved his Neil Young bits, and this one is just as brilliant or more. Nice work.

2011-11-12 08:15:48 PM
Well, he's better than Ian Astbury.

2011-11-12 08:38:21 PM
That was probably the best Doors imitation I've ever heard, and funny to boot.

2011-11-12 09:56:42 PM
OMFG, spot on and totally hilarious

2011-11-12 10:23:37 PM
Funny. Almost as good as Weird Al's Doors parody.

2011-11-12 10:50:35 PM
I could tell if the video was funny except it absolutely refused to load and there wasn't any blocking add ons going.

2011-11-12 10:56:44 PM
Is he supposed to be Jim Morrison?

2011-11-13 12:08:02 AM
Nope. Too many javascripts. Sorry, Fallon, you lose this round.

Pelvic Splanchnic Ganglion: Nope. Too many javascripts. Sorry, Fallon, you lose this round.

Yeah Jimmy, put that shiat on Youtube already.

2011-11-13 12:20:07 AM
That was fairly perfect...
...but you don't have to take my word for it.

2011-11-13 12:24:02 AM
OK, that was pretty good...even though I don't want to like it.

GreenAdder: Well, he's better than Ian Astbury.

Thankfully Ray & Robbie have forgotten about the whole getting a famous singer to sing doors songs (they went through Astbury, Fuel's Brett Scallions and a couple of others) and "pulled a journey" and picked up a singer from a tribute band. Dave Brock is the guy's name, while he's not Jim, he's pretty good. And how about one more for good measure?

It's on YouTube but it's a bootleg recording off of the TV so it may not be around very long. Not too bad in quality but not even close to the official version.

2011-11-13 12:39:45 AM
That was shockingly good.

The notable thing about Astbury is how much he promised that he wouldn't try to do a Morrison impersonation, and then the very next day, how much he did exactly that.

2011-11-13 12:44:50 AM
Wow, that was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I've seen overpaid Doors tribute bands that were far, far worse.

Point to Fallon.

2011-11-13 12:47:29 AM
there was some youtube of Eddie Vedder singing with the doors in the early 90's. that was cool.

plus there's the "stairway to heaven" cover by the Australian Doors coverband. even better Mo' singer than Fallon.

As a huge Doors fan, I gotta say....he's not bad at all.

tetsoushima: That was shockingly good.

Yeah, it was. If/when Fallon's show goes off the air, he's got a backup gig. Also liked the attention to detail in using musicians that looked eerily similar to Densmore, Kreiger and Manzarek.

2011-11-13 01:07:07 AM
That was...huh, trippy, I guess is the term I would use. Like an acid washed, out of body sequence in a 70's exploitation flick.

It should replace the "remix" they're using for the Reading Rainbow reruns now.

As FARK's resident Doors fan, I have to say that was amazing.

/sagittarius

//would you believe FARK's resident Doors and Queen fan?
///would you believe just some guy who iPodded to the doors near the Tannhauser Gate?

I'm a huge Doors fan, and that was farking perfect, hahaha. Mentioning The Indian in the Cupboard is just icing.

I just favorited all you fellow Doors fans. We gotta stick together.

i read that book in grade 3 or 4. saw the movie the same year. great book.

// thanks for the flashback!

I'll see your Eddie Vedder and raise you Scott Weiland (2 videos).

I still harbor hate for Jimmy Fallon. The crimes he committed against humanity in his years on SNL will not go unforgotten.

It will take a long time and a lot of actually funny stuff for me to come around.

That was pretty good.

You just got yourself one more inch away from seething hate Jimmy.

They got so many nice touches in there, but my fave has to be the flower on "Ray's" keyboard.

Oh yeah? Do you have Other Voices. Full Circle, Absolutely Live, and Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine on vinyl in mint condition? Well, do you?

I only ask because I do, self-proclaimed Biggest Doors Fan.

That maybe, but don't insult me :), I am FARK's resident Doors superfan. (some guy took a bunch of shiat for calling himself FARK's resident Queen superfan.)

I must admit the FIFTH farkING TIME I BOUGHT AN AMERICAN PRAYER to find the vinyl was pre-warped like a farking Physics Wave demonstration, those farking bastards at Elektra, was about the last time I bought a Doors Album on physical media.

Best Morrison impression i've heard, even got the posing right.

2011-11-13 03:23:37 AM
Once I saw it was Fallon actually doing it, I really really really wanted to dislike it. I totally failed.

I actually have Weird Scenes, Other Voices, Full Circle (with Zoetrope), Live, American Prayer on vinyl, i'm also proud of my 45 of Light My Fire/ Crystal Ship. My queen collection's not as impressive though i only have Jazz, News of the World, Sheer Heart Attack and Radio Ga Ga on 45.

/I miss my secret record store that the hipsters didn't know about.

//then again if they knew about it, it wouldn't closed now would it?

///Sorry, i'ma trifle drunk at the moment.

While that was funny... It wasn't live, which makes it far less cool. If he had pulled that off live, it would have gone to 11.

note perfect and stage perfect presentation. they really did their homework on that.

Fallon is an annoying little dork, but that was one hell of a Morrison impersonation. Impressive.

So was this (new window).

I like how the drummer in the Fallon video can do drum rolls without hitting the toms at 3:11 - both sticks in the air, two different tones out of the roll, so it isn't the bass drum.

It's still damn funny though.

(edit - they might have overdubbed a live performance to fix mistakes and then published that to web, dunno)

2011-11-13 11:23:15 AM
I'm only happy that Fallon didn't start laughing. He ruined almost everything he did on SNL because of that.

2011-11-13 11:53:55 AM
its too bad he ruined his career with skit comedy, because he's really terrible at reading words on a cue card, but surprisingly adept at impersonating dead rock stars.

2011-11-13 12:12:56 PM
That was just amazing on so many levels.

2011-11-13 02:38:30 PM
This is my generic comment echoing the sentiment that Fallon is generally terrible at comedy, but pretty darn fantastic at a small handful of impersonations.

2011-11-13 02:46:04 PM
WOW, that's make-you-start-watching-the-show material right there, even the internet stopped criticizing for a moment to nod in approval

Sorry to interrupt your deconstruction here, but the simplest explanation would be that the "musicians" mimed their parts while The Roots played off to the side. Those guys were up there simply because they looked like the other members of The Doors.
