No, two deaths could mean Murder/Suicide. That is two deaths and doesn't count as a double murder.

You might be a little dense too. Subby is dumb because he is picking on the police for stating the obvious, when they actually weren't. As someone else said, it could have been a murder/suicide and there \fore there would be two deaths, but not two murders.

Murder/suicide = 1 murder != double murder
Double suicide != double murder
Single murder with fire to cover up said murder that then kills someone else in the building = Accidental double murder

I don't see why the subby jumped on the police for this. Police could have suspected a murder-suicide, double suicide or accidental deaths.

To say they suspect a double murder in two fire deaths means they have ruled out the first three scenarios I listed.
