Are fat people going to use this now to justify not exercising?

Once you got the hang of it, it was a pretty good piece of equipment. But you really did look like a fool as a beginner.

It is the basis of the modern elliptical.

You know, for the price of the Nordi-Trac you could have purchased a year-long membership at a very nice gym, where you would have access to all machines

"Mr. Pauls originally had called his machine the "Nordic Jock" but changed the name after women's rights groups complained, according to the book by Freeman and Golden.)"

//cue the "that's racist!" kid..
//or the white power idiots. Not sure which would love that more..

Then he should have called it the Nordic Rack.

I argued with people that wouldn't go to a gym because they were so self conscience. For some people they would just rather work out from home. Then there are people like me who work nights and can't get to a gym during their hours.

/now a member of a 24 hour gym

I just think it's stupid to spend all that money on a machine that most people may only use once or twice, before storing it in a corner, and watch it collect dust.

People think it's better to waste the money on a memebership they won't use since it doesn't take up any space.

Gym memberships are like those huge coupon books people used to buy. It's a self-satisfying impulse buy that people will rarely get their money's worth from, but they won't cancel it because then they've mentally just given up on fitness. So it gets renewed month-by-month while getting used less and less. Brilliant for the gyms themselves, but terrible for actual use..

//of course there's a certain percentage that will use it every day, to balance that out, but it's more likely a minority than the majority.

NordicTrack machines just don't work for me. That fixed width track system means this broad shouldered person can't use it.

Think about it for a minute. I also can't use most treadmills because they're rarely more than 18 inches wide.
