5-inch heels are nothing if they're juxtaposed with a 3-inch platform in front.

/It's nothing if the 5-inch heels is not paired up with a sandal front

Women fell "empowered" by 5 inch heels?

Really?.... REALLY?....

Yes, being a slave to a fashion trend born out of the objectification of women is empowerment.

Some women feel empowered by drawing attention and "feeling sexy". Men do too. There's a strange, demented satisfaction in using physical appeal as a psychological tool.

Freudian slip?

I have inflexible arches, so I can't wear 5" heels. My feet just can't contort to that shape no matter how hard I try. Thus, they suck.

/foot fetishist's worst nightmare
//duck feet, size 11, long 2nd toe... :(

Puh-lease...

My first time in 6" platforms was not a problem at all.

Within 1/2 hour I was running up and down the stairs, and danced for 4 hours in them the same day I got them.

It's all about knowing how to distribute your weight, change your pacing and foot placement.

/Yes, I'm a 6'3" 280lb guy. I look damned good as a woman though.

bibli0phile: Yes, being a slave to a fashion trend born out of the objectification of women is empowerment.

It's not about fashion. It's about what it does to a woman's shape. As in, it makes it more attractive to men (providers).

It's an entirely rational, evolutionary thing to do.

Heels make your ass stick up and out. It's basically a kind of ass-prosthetic that says "MY ASS. LOOK AT IT. DAT ASS."

Used to work with a girl who had worn nothing but heels for so long that wearing flats made her fett and legs hurt. It was kinda scary how functional she was in heels. She could run in them without a second thought.

/Hot too.
//Wouldn't go out with me :-(
///Those stripper pics always make me sad, I bet the babies don't even tip.

I would also assume that your feet are larger than the average woman's as well. I wear a size 12 in woman's shoes and it does make a difference between wearing high heels when you wear a size 12 when compared to the average of size 7 or 8. There is more of a distance to cover so the angle is not as steep. That is why folks like us can wear higher heels more easily
/one of the few advantages, sadly

My Pleaser heels are size 12. I have some lower heels that are 11's, but they are too narrow for my feet. Hurt like a biatch after about 20 minutes.

They look horrible and they permanently distort feet in various ways. Not sexy at all.

as a girl who only owns one pair of "flat" (they still have a 1.5" wedge heel) shoes and all others are at least a 3.5" heel (though most are 4"-5") I'm getting a kick...

/though now that I have a newborn I'm usually just barefoot around the house.
//actually miss wearing heels.

My wife just brought home her first pair of 5 inch heels yesterdays so i am getting a kick out this....and looking forward to seeing them tonight.

Current trends are for ridiculously high heels. It's gotten ludicrous, and I say this as someone who owns a pair of 5" (with no platform) boots. Still, I actually find them easier to walk in than ballet flats.

Congrats! I'm mostly barefoot too because of my 4-month-old. Thank goodness pregnancy didn't change my shoe size. When the kids get crawling, you need to be able to corner quickly as you chase them!

Why does a tall woman want to look taller?

2011-11-12 08:43:22 AM
BalugaJoe: Why does a tall woman want to look taller?

Taller means better eye contact. Heels also make a woman's calf muscles look more defined. They cause the butt to stick to become more... Let's say "pronounced".

Basically, if a woman doesn't have perfect legs and ass heels can make them look better.

I'm sure there are other reasons.

Also, the fashions right now are for loose, mid-calf length skirts. A very high heel balances the rest of your outfit, otherwise you look stumpy and wide.

Most of the women I know and have an interest in certainly do like indulging my love of heels since I then indulge them in their love of foot rubs.

It's really about balance.

My feet are size 5, so high heels are pretty painful for me. The angle is just too damn sharp. It sucks because I love the way they look. All of the cute ones with platformed toes are out of reach for me at this point.

Ugh. You know what kind of shoe makes me feel 'empowered'?

Combat boots. And I'll win against every pair of high heels out there unless they're heavy enough to be used as a club - at which point I can still out run you.

The Chinese used to practice foot binding where they would force women to basically cripple themselves so they would be more dependent on their husbands and be unable to flee.

Modern women in the west do the same thing but voluntarily.

Finally, a western secret we get to hold over their heads.

The crazy thing is women subject themselves to these stilts to impress other women, not men. I'm so glad I'm immune to peer pressure. I don't have the least bit of desire to wear those.

That's because those aren't shoes. If I find out a girl actually owns a pair of those and likes to pretend they are footwear to be worn in while outside doing typical chores I lose all interest.

That's true of almost every women's fashion. Men don't care about shoes, purses, dresses, designers, elaborate or expensive hairstyles... but for some reason women think they do.

True, but men care about the big picture, and those little details play into the big picture more than you think. They're what make a woman look "polished," and a lot of guys fall for those details without realizing it.

I'm a very non-materialistic, don't-play-games, fashion-hating kind of woman, and I always got passed over by bar stars looking for hookups in favour of my friends who had all that polish. That being said, I attracted a lot of attention by nice guys looking for real conversation/relationship material/non-materialistic women, so I think I got the better deal.

Ever since I learned that my grandmother's best friend could wear nothing but high heels. She had worn them for so many years, the shape of her foot had changed to the shape of the high heels. Sorry, not for me, my feet are f*cked up enough on their own.

I understand empowerment but when most of the women wearing those 5+" heels can barely walk, it looks more like a circus act than an empowered woman.

That being said, it's your own feet, wear what you want.

If I wear 5" heels, I'm 6' 2", so most of the time I stick to closer to a 3" heel, 6' tall is enough most of the time. My mom is 5' 2", so I see the draw for her in wearing the 5" heels, it's a completely different dynamic when you're interacting with people and aren't half a foot shorter than most of them.

No, they really are causing injuries. That's why I never wear them. I prefer wedge heels, and I'm glad they're coming back in style.
Still hate buying shoes at anything other than Payless. No shoe is worth $500.
