It's the Miami Heat all over again...

2011-11-12 09:05:01 AM
Yeah, if they want to charge $250 for an upper deck seat obstructed by the foul pole.

2011-11-12 09:36:26 AM
No, subby.

2011-11-12 09:41:25 AM
No.

Next question.

2011-11-12 09:43:33 AM
Only if the marlins end up trading them all for prospects like the last time they bought talent.

Nope.

FTFA:
Marlins president David Samson made it sound unlikely that the team would be willing to pay all three veterans they're courting if Pujols, Reyes and Buehrle accept offers.

"It's a problem we never suspected could happen," Samson said. "It didn't even occur to me. We have a first choice, a 1A and a 1B after 1

So no, all 3 will not be in Miami, although David Samson is a smarmy, lying little man.

Also - "We're just going to see where God takes us,"Pujols said - why do I have the feeling that God will want Pujols to go to the place with the highest offer?

If the Marlins ownership wasn't such scum, they could and -should- sign all three, which would make the NL East actually interesting for a change, and give the fans (they've got to exist) in Miami a decent product.

Also wondering why no one's talking about the Phillies signing Papelbon.

2011-11-12 10:25:49 AM
As a Montreal Expo fan, I hope Loria and his lap-dog son-in-law Samson go to hell. And they can take Loria's art collection with them, too.

Getting Guillen made it a lot more attractive; players love that he has their back unless they cross him (oh hi, Magglio Ordonez).

So why did the Phillies give $50 mil to a washed up closer?

The Bestest: Also wondering why no one's talking about the Phillies signing Papelbon.

Because it's a stupid deal for a guy who's fast becoming an average reliever. Remember when the Blue Jays gave BJ Ryan $45 million? How'd that work out for them?

As a die hard Rangers fan, I'd love nothing more than to see Pujols go to the Marlins.

/Or anywhere but St. Louis.

Well, they do have a new ballpark opening, so there is a possibility that they may actually draw this season. I don't think they have to cross any bridges.

Aren't they on strike?

It just strikes me as kinda odd. Do they really think he's that much of an upgrade over Lidge?
Also, who signs Lidge now?

Because it was Nigel Tufnell day and they wanted to turn their douche quotient up to 11

hardly anyone went to the old one, their attendance was dismal, I know they won 2 series, and had a fire sale after hosting the trophy.

Just got back from Beaver Stadium and tailgating. It was a *bit* more somber than usual, but otherwise, you'd never know anything happened. The Westboro assholes were there trying to start shiat, but the state police escorted them off of school property and they stood out on Park Avenue with their signs.

/couldn't get close enough to punch them in the face and disappear into the crowd.

"For The Kids" is the Motto of "THON" (The IFC-PanHel Penn State Dance Marathon), the largest student-run Philanthropy in the world. It's raised over a quarter million for pediatric cancer research and has nothing to do with Sandusky, the Second Mile, or any of this nonsense. If anything, you WANT those charities to be there to try and bring people back to what is important: the children.

Pujols is going to go to the team with the highest offer that also offers the best chance to win now. The Marlins will fail to meet either of those criteria. Granted I also believe he will give the Cardinals the opportunity to match that offer, but while I think the Cardinals are willing to go high they do have a limit.

As a Cardinals fan, I'm leaning towards hoping he leaves. Whoever he signs with is going to be paying him for what he's done for the Cardinals more than they for what he'll ever be capable of doing with that new team. Frankly I don't want to see $30 million of the Cardinals annual payroll tied up in any single player, even Pujols. Would love to see him stay, but not at the expense of the Cardinals sucking for years on end because over a quarter of their payroll is tied up in a guy who's past his prime, batting .250 and playing 120 games a year.

Best to leave now and have all the good memories, then watch him have that rapid decline (as all players of his type do) and hobble out to play more humored than respected.

That should be $78 million. They raised over $9.5 million last year alone...

I honestly think it was yesterday or the day before. And if you think that's bad, just wait until you see their uniforms and the horrible atrocity they have planned for home run celebrations in center field. Caution: What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Sorry, but while I understand your sentiment, this wasn't the time or place for that specific slogan.

Buehrle either wants to stay with the White Sox or go to his hometown Cardinals. He's said this for years. He's even contemplated early retirement to be with his family. He's said he has enough money, and he's not the type to just go for the money.

I like the new logo. It really fits in well with the art deco style which is prevalent in Miami.

And the Cardinals won't go after him, as they have a rotation already, Wainwright returning, and are keeping the money pile ready for Pujols.

I've always said the Marlins need to spend more money to be a real team (rings or not) but if they sign Jose Reyes I will vomit anger.

Oh, I know. Just saying... he's pretty adamant about staying with the Sox or going to the Cards if that's ever a possibility.

You never know, I suppose.

As part of their deal to get the suckers fine citizens of Miami-Dade to buy them a new stadium, they had to change their name.

They had to do it before 2015 so the Cubs can beat them in the world series. Now is as good of a time as any.
