Alright, I definitely lol'd. And then had to explain to my co-worker why I was laughing, for the second time in two days.

Perry is a RINO. He's way too liberal.

Perry supports vaccination, for Christsakes!

He also supports giving in state tuition to people who live in his state!

I really don't get why this is an issue. I don't like Rick Perry's politics, but it's obvious he had something on the tip of his tongue and couldn't get it out, like we've all done at one point or another.

Liberals are making this into something it's not in the same way conservatives did to "57 states."

probably because when we do it, it's about something we need from the store or what time a TV show starts. Not what major governement department we would close and effect the lives of millions.

Obama's slip was 57 instead of 47 (the number of states he had visited by that point). it was understandable, and it was after a long stretch of campaigning sometime in July or August after it was pretty much a mortal lock. The right-wing has used it in comments to this month, more that 3 years later.

Perry's was in November the year before, when he's done nothing, had a failing campaign going into making this slip, and it's a real statement: he wants to destroy federal worker's jobs to please his base. He is also an ass. And it's been just a few short days with relatively little news.

In other words, there's plenty of reasons.

Between Perry's "Dean scream" moment, and Cain's wimmin troubles... and the fact that neither campaign was ended instantly, I'd say the Republicans are so hard up for a viable candidate that someone would have to be photographed in an SS uniform f*cking a goat before their poll numbers would drop.

This slate of Republican candidates are the most repetitious, least individualized group of non-thinkers to ever run for President. It is all the same mantra, "cut taxes, reduce size of government", which has been the GOP platform for a long time, but at this point they really have nothing else.

And Perry is probably the worst of all of them. I knew what the third department was while he was struggling to come up with it, not because I am paying much attention to Perry's positions, but because it was Energy was the obvious department for a paint-by-the-numbers Republican to group with Commerce and Education. Perry's campaign has been all about the memorization game from the beginning, and he just lost that game.

If Perry was a better campaigner, he would have just come up with an 8-8-8!! plan, and said nothing else for the next twelve months.

I was wondering what the third one actually was... are you sure it's energy? That's insane. I was quietly hoping it would actually be something we don't need like the TSA or Homeland Security.

Tip of the tongue is common, but in a semi-prepared speech you don't forget the entirety of a third point.

If this was tip of the tongue he would have been able to describe the department in some way.

Homeland security was a good idea - combining the Intel of multiple existing agencies was long overdue. We've still got a long way to go on that front.

The patriot act and TSA are the things you should focus your post 911 complaints on - and those pale before the wars.

ProdigalSigh: I was wondering what the third one actually was... are you sure it's energy?

Didn't he say this later? Anyway, with the Solyndra "scandal" and green energy initiatives, I thought DoE was an obvious after ED. Commerce surprised me. I was surprised as well he did not include the EPA, even after having been suggested to him. EPA seems more the Conservative boogeyman to business than USDoC.

Funny story. They actually tried that.

But in all the debate rehearsals his campaign aids did, Perry kept getting hung up and drawing a blank on the third 8.

You must restart your capitol for these changes to take effect.

Perry supported vaccination for HPV because he got kickbacks from Merck, who manufactured the HPV vaccine. He's stupid and corrupt. America deserves him as president.

Honestly, how the hell do you get liberals from that pic? You know 95% of even Republicans don't like him. Dean got sunk by doing a weird yell, this is far worst than that.

Libs! Libs! Libs!

What kind of paranoid world do you guys live in?

For me the biggest thing isn't the mistake itself, but his response afterward. This is a quote from a presidential candidate: "Oh, shoot no," he told The Associated Press. "This ain't a day for quitting nothing." Not that I was a Perry supporter in the first place but come on.

The difference being one happened a few years ago and the other happened this week.

Cain,Perry and Bachmann are still running because of how much publicity and money it brings them not because they actually want to be president.

Sorry... "tip of your tongue" things are:

the name of that shiatty skateboard movie Corey Haim did with that chick from Charles in Charge
that German word that means "a face that cries out for a fist"
the author of "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."
that dude in tenth grade who was always making up shiat like how he got recruited as a Yakuza assassin after beating up a whole motorcycle gang with a set of nunchakus.

NOT...

the name of the Federal Government Department you intend to abolish when you're elected President.

I think you will find the number of people who think this is an issue is actually quite small. It was, however, amusing and I can't blame anyone for running with the joke for a while.
