Well, if Bill Ward is there, it's Sabbath.

FirstNationalBastard: Well, if Bill Ward is there, it's Sabbath.

Unfortunately, Ozzy isn't.

2011-11-11 10:16:53 PM
RIP DIO.

2011-11-11 10:23:01 PM
Subby's headline nailed it.

2011-11-11 10:23:06 PM
Yeah....I'm pretty excited about it in 2011. Suck it, subby.

/Black Sabbath is reuniting.

2011-11-11 10:24:00 PM
Given how awesome "The Devil You Know" turned out, this could be good.

2011-11-11 10:35:26 PM
Saw their last reunion at Ozzfest sometime in the late 90s. Ozzy is pretty awful live.

2011-11-11 10:38:51 PM
New album? Like all new? Yes please. Not expecting Master of Reality - as long as it's better than last two studio albums they did together (which shall remain nameless) I'll be happy.

FTA - The Birmingham band played their first Los Angeles show at the Whisky A Go Go 41 years ago today.

Cool. I'm exactly 363 days older than Black Sabbath. Never knew that until today.

Nicholas Urfe: Saw their last reunion at Ozzfest sometime in the late 90s. Ozzy is pretty awful live.

He was never the strongest voice out there. The knock has been that his voice is thin but his on stage energy made up for it. Now that he doesn't seem to go 5 feet from the mic it just isn't up to par.

2011-11-11 10:46:04 PM
That's impossible. Their lead singer is dead.

I fail at reading comprehension (blaming the alcohol). I know they actually formed in '68.

/going back to drinking now. 'night farkers.

Nicholas Urfe: Saw their last reunion at Ozzfest sometime in the late 90s. Ozzy is pretty awful live.

I saw Black Sabbath live with Ozzy and then later with Dio. Sabbath with Dio sounded better and put on a way better show than with Ozzy. The fans were more into the music, and all the band members seemed to really enjoy being on stage together. When Ozzy was on stage he missed half the lyrics and just ran around, and the looks on the other band members faces was, "Oh not this shiat again."

2011-11-11 11:25:51 PM
FTA: Butler added that the new songs are "back to the old Sabbath style and sound. The stuff that Tony's been playing is absolutely brilliant."

plus produced by Rick Rubin, I have mixed feelings about him, he can take a great band and make them a little too radio friendly but he can also take a washed up band and give them new life.

I'm think might just be happy about this news, I hope they go for a clean sound instead of having 80 tracks of music layered on top of each other, but I no that probably wont happen.

2011-11-11 11:34:53 PM
Nicholas Urfe: Ozzy is pretty awful live.

He's pretty awful recorded, too. I think Sabbath was a great band in spite of Ozzy, not because of him.

2011-11-11 11:49:08 PM
EABOD subby. Not only am I excited about this (allegedly Ozzy has been working with a vocal coach for around the last 6 months), I also submitted a Black Sabbath reunion story with a better headline.

2011-11-11 11:50:35 PM
Sabbath broke up in 1978 dumbass.

-1 subby.

2011-11-11 11:54:59 PM
um subby.... i'm pretty sure Black Sabbath was still together in 1975. They released "Sabotage" (arguably their best record of the 70's) that year.

/ i was going to bash Ozzy for his inane childish rhymes/lyrics during early Sabbath ("War Pigs" particularly comes to mind), but then I found out that the bassist wrote most of the lyrics.
//
ozzy: "are you high?"
audience: "yes"
ozzy: "ARE YOU HIGH?!"
audience: "YEAH!"
Ozzy: "so am i !"

2011-11-11 11:55:24 PM
another band that's older than dirt... i can just hear one of the fans yelling, look at that old geezer up on stage...

2011-11-12 12:02:30 AM
I've seen (reunited) Ozzy Sabbath twice. The first time was farking brilliant. The second time was one of the worst shows I've ever seen (Ozzy's fault).

Saw Ozzy solo a few months ago - it was great...

And this...

Rickj: Sabbath broke up in 1978 dumbass.

I saw Sabbath in '78 with a little known back up band named Van Halen. I'd never heard Van Halen before that and I just though, who the hell are these guys and where the hell can I get this album? Anyway, Sabbath then proceeded to show everyone why they were the headliner. Awesome show.

/saw Sabbath with Dio, and they were good, but in a different way
//saw Dio as a solo artist after that. Again, good.
///would go to the new reunion if they come around here.

2011-11-12 12:31:36 AM
I saw Dio's heaven and hell tour a few years ago. EPIC SHOW

Hopefully the ozzy-led-sabbath comes up here in 2012. They're on my lists of shows to see before I (or the band members) die.

2011-11-12 12:40:41 AM
This is great! All you haters can suck it.

Hopefully they will come around here, although since Portland doesn't have a hard rock radio station to help get them here it probably won't happen. Not to mention they're getting up in their years and will probably only play the largest markets to keep the number of shows manageable.

that's why i said "arguably" :p

Paranoid is good. especially for 1971. Just overplayed.

Vol. 4 is better. some filler though.

"sabbath bloody sabbath" is too pop/rock-ish for me.

I like the big riffs/doom n' gloom / heavyness of "Sabotage"

I think I was there in '98 and he rocked. Took a couple breaks but rocked.

Just want to chime in on the "pro-Ozzy" side of things. Saw him live in 2008 (with his own band, incl. Zakk Wylde) and he rocked the house.

Dude, was that at Madison Square Garden, by chance?

2011-11-12 01:15:25 AM
I'm keeping my expectations low for this one, but I hope it turns out good. At least every Sabbath album up to and including Born Again is classic.

Heaven and Hell was also pretty good, and the Who Cares single with Iommi and Gillan was careworthy.

I worry that Ozzy's really lost it though.

1) Ozzy is actually "sober" now (As sober as he's gonna get/as sober as he's been since 1975).

2) Rumors have it that it will be a Sabbath/Priest/Motorhead tour in 2012. Original line-up of Priest; KK Downing said this will be his last one.

3) Lemmy is dropping a new album soon, supposedly Fast Eddie and Philthy Phil contribute at least on a few songs.

4) Tickets will be reasonably priced, I'm sure.

Sweat Leaf. That is all.

Sabbath has always been my favorite band. I dug the Ozzy era, the Dio era, and even the brief Gillan era. I saw them in the 90's on the Ozzfest tour and thought it was a little bland. For some reason I really think that Rubin and Iommi working together can pull off a great album.

2011-11-12 08:41:03 AM
I saw Sabbath in 84, with Ian Gillian as the lead singer. It was the Born Again tour. Quiet Riot was the opening act. It was an awesome show, and I really liked the Born Again album. I think that was their last good album. After that, it seemed like they had a revolving door when it came to lead singers, and I lost interest.

It will be interesting to hear what the newly reformed original Sabbath sounds like. I don't have high hopes for it, but I do want to hear it.

I have a two-thirds boner. Motorhead are boring. Sorry.

2011-11-12 09:59:57 AM
I'm confused. How will they reunite if Dio is dead?

i dunno about anyone else , but this thread made me fire up War Pigs and Iron Man,,,think I'm just going to sit here and drink and smoke until that sun goes down - it's too bright outside!

I saw Ozzy on his No More Tours tour in 92. Had to see him before he "retired".

2011-11-12 12:10:43 PM
This is great news. Tony Iommi still shiats great riffs in his sleep, as "The Devil You Know," showed, so I'm sure Rubin and him can play to Ozzy's strengths at his age and come up with a solid album.

Nope, that was the little ole Myriad in OKC.

Sabotage is the best acid album ever.

It would have been odd news in 1975.

wow, Sabotage on vinyl. f-in A~!

oddly enough, I don't see much used Ozzy era vinyl (except for maybe Paranoid and Never say die). Maybe the people who originally bought it hang on to it for a long time.

Can you fault people for trying to get rid of a copy of Never Say Die?
