Not the worst idea. Many churches already do this in their missals, and have you ever bought a program as a sports event?

Schools gotta get their money someplace, and god knows the current "government" isn't helping.

FTFA: Gillis sent home a letter to parents explaining the move. The school district is facing $70 million in cuts. The non-profit CollegeInvest will pay $30,000 a year for the ad space.

Well, way to make a real dent in the shortfall there, guys.

i don't see how putting ads in classrooms is going to drive up revenue. Students are notorious for being poor no matter what grade level they're at.

Proves that the trickle-down theory works! The Bush tax cuts finally trickled down to public education, with the overwhelming majority of Colorado residents saying "If the wealthy don't want to pay to educate our youth, why should we?"

Man I hate those. Like the one where you've been enrolled in a class all semester but never went and now it's time for the final and you know you'll fail the class regardless of how you do because you didn't complete any other assignment.

I have the "show up after 3 weeks of skipping and there's a major test" dream.... probably cuz that happened to me.... twice... apparently the first time didnt make enough of an impression.

I also have one where I get a call from either my high school or college and they say "We've been going of old transcripts and it seems you missed a course and shouldnt have graduated - you need to come make it up right now or you lose your job/house/degree...."

those school buildings are really well put together. add a few bars, turn those unused art, music and band rooms into cells and cash in on the country wide incarceration craze. show the kids what they have to look forward to while earning much needed revenue.

Well, if the school district has a thousand schools, they could make up about half the cuts. Somehow I'm guessing a non-profit called CollegeInvest won't have the capital to buy $30 million in ads, though.

Seriously, though, $30,000 per school will barely buy each one an extra janitor. If you face $70 million in cuts, you probably (and unfortunately) need to do more drastic things than selling ads on report cards. Like house prisoners.

Who Is CollegeInvest?
CollegeInvest is a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, with the goal of helping Coloradans achieve their higher education goals.

Those sellouts!

/It's not news, it's Fark

or wait, is the real news that the bad guys on Wall Street have convinced the Dept of Higher Ed to fund a division whose sole purpose is convince schoolchildren and their parents that the best way to get through life is to lock their money away in FDIC-insured accounts that the banks can then use as leverage in schemes to extort financial bailouts from taxpayers everybody who's dumb enough to keep their money in US dollars?

They're selling adds for ONE company. A college investment company.

Oh, what the hell. Feel free to derp away.

/Remember Book-It?

It's sad that they have to resort to this, but it makes sense and as long as they're getting revenue and not embezzling it.
The ads on the buses I'm fine with as well. Just as long as it's not for some night club.

R.A.Danny: Not the worst idea. Many churches already do this in their missals, and have you ever bought a program as a sports event?

High school yearbooks already have church-bulletin style ads, at least mine did.

This, I don't know - I'd actually be MORE comfortable with rotating local ads than a company like this - it could make it seem like the school is implicitly endorsing it.

It's probably not "per school", maybe per city or in AZ, NV, UT, or WY..., per county. (As cheap as they can get away with, as always.)

Well thought headline there subby. 1

Oh yeah I've had that one too! Probably because it took me six years to get my bachelor's and for a while there I thought I'd never get it all completed.

After having one of those it's nice to walk into the home office and see the degree hanging on the wall.

aerojockey: If you face $70 million in cuts, you probably (and unfortunately) need to do more drastic things than selling ads on report cards. Like house prisoners.

Or cut some of the umpteen layers of administration who are making six figures and never step foot in a classroom.

Have you been to a public school lately? They might as well be housing prisoners. Architecturally, my son's school and the county jail are basically indistinguishable. Seriously. The county jail is right next to the animal shelter, and when we went there last caturday to get a new cat, my son thought it was a school.

"We have to get creative about how we can get some more public school funding," said parent Kelly Johnson.

But teachers are overpaid and evil to have even a minimum-wage salary! They should be volunteering and paying for school supplies for the privilege of teaching bored, hyperactive students routine test answers!
