I'm finding it difficult to keep an open mind about this. All I can think of is how people are openly supporting someone who helped cover up child rape.

Cythraul: I'm finding it difficult to keep an open mind about this. All I can think of is how people are openly supporting someone who helped cover up child rape.

Look at it this way. It hasn't been proved that he is guilty yet, he hasn't been on trial. If he didn't actually do it, he's going to have a hell of a time convincing anyone with everyone already trying him in the media. He needs help for his defense.

Everyone deserves a fair trial. That's a Constitutional right.

It looks like there is an obvious double-standard in all of this, though. Prevention and prosecution of pedophilia these days is such a witch hunt, if this were a situation of a less important person covering up child rape, people would be demanding that he be hung up by the nearest tree.

All of it bothers me a little... I feel bad for the kids (now young adults), but I look at this whole situation with a strange mix of half-invested emotions.

He's going to need a super high-powered lawyer to prove himself innocent if he actually is innocent.

And you think people haven't been? Look over those threads again with people denouncing JoePa for not making himself the police.

But he's also getting a lot of support from alumni, team fans, students and others. A person of lesser status would be lucky to afford a decent enough lawyer, much less get the kind of support he's been getting.

Nobody expected him to ride into the shower on horseback with pistols-a-blazing. The problem is the man who made a career out of waving his moral compass in everyone's face looked the other way while his bff rode the baloney pony through tiny town. He's rightfully being scorned for that.

I'm having a hard time deciding what the most disturbing media/fark trend is in the last month. Is it:

a. People defending Joe Pa for not reporting a literal child rapist to the police
b. People slut shaming the women who dare to come forward with sexual harassment allegations against Cain
c. People defending/praising the Texas judge who brutally beat his disabled teenage daughter

If the reports of him pimping boys out to donors of his foundation are found to be true, I think that will take it to a lower level than kiddie rape..

A few years ago, a pilot you've all read about in the news for attempting to fly his airliner drunk, asked me (and all his fellow company pilots) to contribute to his defense fund. While I sympathized with his plight, it was his own doing - no help from me.

I believe Sandusky deserves his day in court and I'm confident he will get the same fair trial everybody else gets. You have to be pretty cynical to believe that requires extra money for lawyers.

Sandusky isn't rich, is he? I think he's going to need the money. Considering he has a right to a trial, and is currently considered "innocent"... I have zero problem with a friend donating to his legal fund.

Especially with how the media has been treating him.

I believe he did it. I believe he's scum. But no problem with this.

His punishment for having sex with a boy in the locker room shower was that they told him not to bring boys into the locker room anymore.

Yea, god forbid someone have a chance to defend themselves in a court of law. That's totally unamerican!

Let 'em have his fancy lawyers, he's gonna get screwed anyway. As he deserves. At least with a good lawyer he can't claim he was screwed by not having a good enough lawyer.

2011-11-11 04:52:35 PM
As much as I do agree that everyone deserves a "day in court".... just on the face of the breadth of the accusations here, for him to NOT be guilty, you'd have to have a coordinated effort of eight (alleged) victims and numerous (supposed) witnesses all somehow coming together (even though many of them didn't even know each other) to decide they want to convince the govt. lawyers and grand jury that Sandusky is a horrible horrible person, for some undetermined reason. And you can't compare this to a "single event" crime where multiple people come together and somehow all blow their eye witnessing... these are people accusing him of things over a 15 year span.

When it's one accuser (like the Duke Lax case), they can pull off something like that, it is just them trying to thread their lie through the needle. I find it hard to believe you'd have eight different people and a bunch of witnesses admitting seeing things, and have it all be a 20-year mission to bring down "good ol Jerry Sandusky".

So, yes, he deserves his day in court, but, he is and will be found guilty. For whatever that is worth. And he'll obviously get his day in court, because he has adamantly stated that he is innocent... so, if you are going to present a credible defense upon that, you are going to have to vigorously attack the accusers on the stand, and (assuming he is guilty), now not only did he do the physical abuse to them, he is going to purposefully put them through the additional trauma of having to recount everything on the stand in front of a room of strangers, and Jerry sitting there himself, them knowing he is trying to malign their credibility.

In my mind, this will be the most watched/followed trial since OJ, if Sandusky is actually going to try to mount a trial defense... because people will be so interested in how he can even mount a defense.

2011-11-11 04:53:03 PM
Meh, if he wants to waste money on a lost cause, who am I to care. It's not my money. If I were in that position and wanted to get rid of some money, paying for rape counseling for the victims would seem a more productive use of it. But again, not my money.

I'll be quite surprised if he goes to trial. His attorney is probably going to try and cut every deal he can for Sandusky in exchange for anything and everything he knows about the other people charged.
