When I read that I heard a drunk voice.

I'm not as think as you drunk I am. Howevvvvr, the drunker I sit here, the longer I get.

Tom Coughlin,
Tony Sparano,
Bill Belichick,

Really? Given what I have read about these guys, well, knock me over with a feather.

2011-11-11 11:32:06 AM
You probably wouldn't want those players who wouldn't want to play for Coughlin and Belichick on your team anyway.

Where's Norv Turner?

JerseyTim: You probably wouldn't want those players who wouldn't want to play for Coughlin and Belichick on your team anyway.

Bingo. The dudes who wouldn't want to play for them aren't big on winnin'. They want to be in the NFL, sure, but they're there to get paid. The rest is gravy.

I'd rather play for Coughlin or Belichick than Todd Haley any day of the week.

He's not hated by his players, he just sucks.

We love Norv Turner!

JerseyTim: You probably wouldn't want those players who wouldn't want to play for Coughlin and Belichick on your team anyway.

Exactly. Belichik is universally regarded as one of the top 2, and Coughlin is also part of the elite top group. Coughlin is probably the most underrated coach in the league. He catches mad amounts of shiat, but he wins at a pretty impressive clip, often with mediocre talent and gaping holes in certain places.

/Coughlin and Eli are both damn good

2011-11-11 12:16:46 PM
and two of the three have won the Super Bowl. Go figure.

Coach isn't your friend, he's yer boss.

Hasn't Coughlin mellowed a bit since he first got to New York Jersey?

And done. Exactly what I came to say.

I've always done my best work when working for a tough boss or a teacher that doesn't want to be my "friend". These players are pussies that lack drive.

I thought Shanahan would have been up there. He just seems like an insufferable bastard with an overinflated ego and no sense of humor.

Only because Singletary isn't coaching anymore

From the comments: how about jerry sandusky??

He's probably back down to earth now that A. he got shut out for the first time in the NFL and B. he's sitting on a .360 winning percentage at Washington.

Actually, I think (no proof, just a hunch) that Shanahan has simply mellowed over the years to the point where he doesn't have the energy to be the dictatorial hard-ass he was for his first five seasons in Denver that netted us two titles. You could see the fatigue really starting to set in once the Broncos blew that AFC Championship game to the Steelers a few years ago -- the Broncos were completely lacking discipline and focus, a problem they didn't come CLOSE to having while Elway was still there with Shanahan.

Of course, having to put up with Jay Cutler's shiat would wear me out, too.

Shanny's W-L record without an Elway at QB is something like 108-97. Like being born on the 5 yard line thinking you caught a 94-yard pass.

Lost Thought 00: Only because Singletary isn't coaching anymore

he definitely would be in the top 3 if he was still coaching.

Shanahan about choosing Jay Cutler over Jake Plummer with the Broncos still 7-4 and in playoff position: "It's not about making the playoffs, it's about winning the Super Bowl."

Number of times Shanahan has made the playoffs since: 0
Number of winning seasons for Shanahan since: 0

I guess he forgot you have to make the playoffs in order to have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

oh, and Shanahan was 40-18 or something like that with Plummer, so since then he's sub-.500.

2011-11-11 01:03:55 PM
So the six that already have Harbaugh up there...are they Lions or 49ers that hate winning?

2011-11-11 01:05:04 PM
As voted by the players in total, not players who hate their own coach. Not surprising that they picked two winners.

ftfm.
But I would want to play for a winning coach even if he beat my team my entire career up until that point.

You can't win any other way. That totally explains why the last two coaches to win haven't been dictatorial at all.

See also: Smith, Lovie. He's not as bad as Norv, but the way the Bears regressed after the 2006 season was inexcusable. One of the best defenses of the decade and you miss the playoffs 3 years in a row? Not to mention the whole Ron Rivera debacle.

The means are irrelevant to the end. Coughlin and Belicheck are assholes, and they win. If them being a meany-poopy-face is more important to you than the fact that they win, go play somewhere else.

I honestly cannot think of a coach I hate.
My hate starts with particular fans, then players, then referees.

Mike Tomlin didn't get voted because he will hunt you. Using your dreams.

2011-11-11 01:30:35 PM
Coughlin is the number 1 preseason coach. He isn't trying out new plays, or testing young players, or evaluating free agents. He is trying to win the damn game.

Players freakin love him because he has exactly zero expectations or demands for them. It's FANS that despise him

/Redskins fan. believe that the end of the Skin' reign as an elite franchise can be traced directly to the beginning of the "Norv era" and Danny just sped the process up.

I just enjoy watching someone fail after they aren't happy with having one of the best teams in the league every year and they blame others for it.

I don't think it says anything about not wanting to play for them, either. Just that they're hated.

/Belichick hasn't been quite as good since he had to stop cheating

2011-11-11 04:00:52 PM
I remember when Dick Vermeil was the asshole of the month, players biatching about practices, etc in St. Louis.

In the following year, they won the Super Bowl.

2011-11-11 04:25:40 PM
It's weird how a lot of the top vote getters also align with:

"His defense beat the hell out of our offense". Coughlin, Belichick (although not so much recently), Ryan, Schwatz, and Harbaugh all fit in there. So that's either a bunch of Haynesworth types voting "coach made my ass work" or a punch of really sore offensive skill players.

Tony is on there because he's incompetent, Carroll and Haley are on the douchebag side of things.

2011-11-11 04:34:23 PM
Don't hatie Lovie.

2011-11-11 04:41:45 PM
IAmRight: So the six that already have Harbaugh up there...are they Lions or 49ers that hate winning?

Yeah I don't get that at all either. Harbaugh on that list was strange. I also agree with you, and everyone else, who is saying that there are a lot of players who voted in this that probably don't like to work and don't care about winning.

I am was a Colts fan and not afraid to admit it. Its all because of this guy. This season has almost NOTHING to do with Manning's absence.
