If he wins a couple without choking it away at the end I'll believe he's back. I do think he'll eventually be back, though not nearly as dominant, but I think he'll get the 19 he really covets.

I was gonna make some Australian open crack. then I saw the field. That's a pretty damn strong field so I guess he actually is hitting it pretty well. It's not a win til it's a win but still - it's the clearest sign we've seen in a while that he still has a pulse.

Well according to my coworkers twitter says Tiger is dead in the Dominican republic. So he plays better a half a world away dead, who knew that was was the trick to get his swing back.

So leading a tournament halfway through is big news?

I'll make sure to start a thread next time Colts are ahead at halftime.

I submitted this with the "8 or 9 deep" joke based on his post-round comments.

/maybe the real Tiger is back if he is going 8 or 9 deep

That's not a question, subby.

/No really, it's a command. If you said "Can you guess..." then it would be a question.

More importantly, Phil Mickelson was elected to the Hall of Fame this week. He's not in the running this week, but he has won a lot more tournaments than Woods over the last two years. And he's had serious health problems.

He's also acted like a professional and gone out of his way to treat fans and the press well for 20 years. I'd rather watch the Singapore Open.

He also failed to ever reach #1 when Tiger abdicated the throne.

He's the greatest second banana the golf world has ever seen.

Lee Westwood has managed to get the top ranking, as have Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer. I think we'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the game who thinks Westwood and Donald have had better careers than Mickelson. Kaymer might have one that approaches that kind of success but he has a long way to go. He's really good and still in his 20s.

I don't think people will remember Mickelson's world ranking when it's all said and done. They'll look at his wins and how he approached the game. He'll probably finish with somewhere around 50 wins worldwide (including four Majors so far) and that puts him up there with the greats. He's been incredibly entertaining and, as I mentioned earlier, he behaves like a grown-up and seems to genuinely appreciate seeing people spend their money and show up at tournaments. This is something another very famous number one ranked player pretty much failed to do for 15 years.

Tiger won a lot more often but I enjoyed watching Lefty just as much.

lol no one gives a sh*t about No. 1.

All that matters is majors and he finally got a few.
