Then why don't they put better beer on the market?

Have you tried their Humming Ale? They do good beer. Sam Adams is a solid meh most of the time. Except for the Utopia.

It's a really boring article about poaching executive and market strategy and all that bullshiat, so let's just ignore all that and make this a beer snob thread. You know it's going to happen anyway.

I picked up a bottle of this on a lark back in September. After drinking it, I went right back to the liquor store to go get some more. There were no more. And I haven't been able to find a bottle since. I guess I'll have to wait until next September for some more. It was soooo good.

My personal top ten best. Some of them can be hard to find, but they're worth the effort. * indicates an import; you may have to look for a craft store.

1) Arctic Bay* (Alaska)
2) Corona* (Mexico)
3) Foster's* (Australia)
4) Heineken* (Germany)
5) Michelob AmberBock (full bodied, not for the squeamish)
6) Icehouse (this is an ice-brewed beer, so be careful -- stronger than you think!)
7) Molson* (Canadian)
8) Yuengling (this is one of the oldest beers in North America, very finely aged)
9) Keystone (good all-purpose beer that won't break your budget)
10) Mickey's (the green grenade!)

In that case, I pity the fool who doesn't live close enough to the comically tiny distribution zone of New Glarus Brewery in Wisconsin, since they'll never experience the finest beer humankind has ever produced: New Glarus Belgian Red:

passionbeer.com

This beer is the single most awesome thing I have ever ingested in my entire life. But you don't have to take my word for it. It's won every award there is to win. The late renowned beer expert Michael Jackson (not that one) put it on his all-time top-ten list of American beers. It gets an "A" rating from BeerAdvocate.com, and ranks as a perfect 100% on RateBeer.com. Beer blog ByThePint.com calls it "The best beer I've ever had," and TheHopry.com opens their review by saying, "How soon into a beer can one recognize that they've just had one of the best beers made? For me, it was pretty damn quick after I took my first sip of the New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red...There was so much sexy in this beer that I almost couldn't believe it."

Everyone I like enough to share my stash with accuses me of overselling the Belgian Red at first...And then they actually try it. Then they both thank me for turning them on to the stuff, and then curse me for creating a new addiction. It really is that good.

All gushing aside...If you love beer, you honestly owe it to yourself to do whatever it takes to try this stuff before you die.

I have a brown ale fermenting under my kitchen table, so I really got a kick out of this reply.

Thinking about not using a recipe kit for my next batch (I've made a handful of batches from Brewers Best kits, so I feel it's time to branch out). Can any Fark homebrewers recommend a good place to find recipes?

I think it's the only six-pack I never bothered finishing. Just threw it out. Not even good when you're already drunk.

Extract, or moving to all-grain? I've been writing all-grain recipes for years and years, including award winning recipes. I'd certainly help you get started if you are going all-grain. (EIP)

Otherwise, there is a decent recipe bank at HomeBrewTalk. You have to sift through the good and bad ones. Look for ratings and comments to help you tell if you're not sure.
