(Huffington Post) Stupid How stupid is Jim DeMint (R-SC)? He was the lone "no" vote on a bill to give tax breaks to businesses that hire veterans. Why? Because it's an "Obama trick"   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 164

I would expect nothing less from a treasonist such as Demint.

2011-11-11 11:42:57 AM
DeMint argued that passing such a tax break was simply catering to an interest group and predicted little hiring would come from the measure. "Despite the overwhelming evidence that these tax credits do not stimulate hiring for targeted groups, the Obama administration continues to push Congress to pass another tax credit, this time exclusively for veterans," he said. "By using a politically sensitive group the day before Veterans Day, the Democrats are hoping they can trick Republicans into further complicating the tax code."

They should have called it the Tax Credit for Hiring Veterans Because Think Of the Children and Save Homeless Puppies Without Any Adverse Effect on Taxpayers Bill.

I'll probably be accused of not supporting veterans by the politicians pandering for their votes,"

Pandering for veteran votes? Most of them will still vote for your dumb ass, don't worry.

the Democrats are hoping they can trick Republicans into further complicating the tax code."

Getting a $9,600 tax credit for hiring someone who can take orders and work hard as a member of a team? Yes, that is very complicated and not worth the 5 minutes to fill out.

This guy really knows how to use the media. No such thing as bad press when you have a lock on your Senate seat. Just helps him at fundraising time. "See, I stood up to Grinchbama when no one else would. Would you kindly enclose a check for $1,000 to help my campaign." He'll make money off this, guaranteed.

He's right. It is pandering and kissing ass to one group. Because they f*cking deserve it.

2011-11-11 11:46:01 AM
DeMint later voted in favor of the larger bill to which the veterans amendment was added

Oh... I see what you did there. Asshole.

So what you're saying is businesses already have an incentive to hire veterans?

serial_crusher: So what you're saying is businesses already have an incentive to hire veterans?

They do, but at a time when unemployment is high, you need to kick employers in the ass with some cash to get them to hire. Demand is not really high enough to spur them to hire on their own, so the theory is that if we can get more people employed, those employees will use their new revenue source to increase demand, justify the hiring, and hopefully create a multiplier effect to add even more jobs.

It's really the only option in an economy like this. Either that, or we sit here and wait, and pray.

They are targeting vets because they have a fairly high unemployment rate as a group, and they feel that they owe them something for their service. It also looks good to the media and voters. Personally, I'd prefer they offer this to all groups and we see what we can do about the unemployment rate. You have to spend money to make money. I'd be willing to cut unemployment benefits on the extensions and use that money for the tax credit program. It would hopefully work out better than just giving people a check to look on their own. But, the cost of hiring a worker can often exceed the credit, and without a guarantee in demand growth, that is all kinds of risky. Considering we jump for joy at a tenth of a percent decrease in unemployment, I'm willing to try anything at this point.

...then ten seconds later stressed how important it was to make sure that the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy stayed in place.

Well yes, for the above reasons, and no, because the psychological damage of conflict is unknown for any individual.

Disagree with a liberal, you're "stupid," "evil," or "racist."

Fark all you libs and your biased HuffPo piece. DeMint voted for a different version of the bill and the veterans got their tax credits - at a time when Obama is claiming he actually wants to cut the military and related benefits!

Go look at Obama's record of voting "present" when he was a senator and state rep. Mr. Profile in Courage. The panderer just kicked the Keystone pipeline and it's thousands of jobs to past the election. Why does Obama hate jobs? He must be stupid/evil like DeMint?

Disingenuous farks, the whole lot of ya!

The Republicans have gone from a fiscally conservative party to a party that wants to simply oppose everything the POTUS puts forward. Unfortunately, they have not opposed the administration's push to wipe out medical marijuana in CA. I guess that one backfired.

DeMint better be careful. Strom Thurmond's going to come back from the dead and drool all over his stupid arse.

But what can he do? He's embraced the tea party. He has to act stupid if he's going to get their votes?

2011-11-11 01:31:53 PM
It's stupid that these veterans can't stand on the merit of their own achievements. This is nepotism and cronyism. What it will do is increase operation costs while decreasing productivity since lines of communication become more complicated. This will not only directly increase the costs of goods and services directly through the increased cost but also indirectly because of the decreased availability of the products or services due to the decrease in productivity. And it will deplete national funds via the tax credit.

Now, what DeMint says is pretty stupid. Especially because there a real valid criticisms of this. Instead he invoked the name of the beast which is partisan politics. What a maroon.

It's funny though. Whenever someone suggests to cut the size of our military, and our military spending (which affects the likes of Lockheed Martin, GE, General Dynamics et al), asholes like you want to pretend they're somehow attacking veterans.

so.... why not just directly give the vets 9600 when they get a job?

this isnt Pro vet, this is anti veteran. you honestly think the vet is going to see any of that in the form of a higher paycheck?

so where is that 9600 going to then? the corp. I though you guys hated trickle down theory here, yet when its done supposedly in favor of the vets on veteran day, its cool?

Oh so gullible Leftists. Demint has been pro-military for decades. While Obama was in Rev. Wright's church, before that, hanging out with Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers, Demint was for a strong defense.

But most of you who now act all in support of those of us who actually served, were the first to cheer whenever something happened during Bush's term that could be viewed as a setback.

So spare us the pretense of acting like you care now. You were pretty much all spitting in the face of Vets not too long ago.
