This man is a joke of an athlete.
I mean, who passes out in front of Hooters before noon?

Someone who was there the night before.

Serves the Aussies right for giving this clown an exemption to play in the tournament.

Daly on-course meltdowns are always funny. I don't care if it's unprofessional, it's still funny. Most golfers are like robots, having some who actually have show some personality (beyond just goofy clothing, which Daly also does) on the course is a good thing.

Suppose there's this guy, and he's standing on the shore of a big wide river, and the... river's full of all manner of disaster, you know, piranhas, alligators, eddies, currents, shiat like that... nobody'll even go down there to dip a toe. And on the other side of the river's a million bucks, and on this side of the river... is a rowboat. I guess my question's this: What would possess the guy standing on the shore to swim for it?

Daly isn't "showing personality". "Showing personality" is Tiger pumping his fist when he knocks it in from the bunker, sideways, or cries on his caddy's shoulder when he wins after his father died, or when any player throws his arm in the air when his approach shot bounces once and goes in.

What Daly is doing is throwing his talent away by indulging his childishness, impatience and lack of impulse control at the expense of his playing partners, the people who paid to see him, and the people whose business is running tournaments. Daly has the kind of "personality" that stopped being a "good thing" to have around the day you graduated college. It's even less attractive to watch when you realize that this is a man with problems who still hasn't touched bottom.

I'd love to play a round with Mr. Daly. Beer would be involved, trash talking and lots of inappropriate jokes about women.

Did he define the moment or did the moment define him?

Daly is afraid to come to Milwaukee for the GMO.

He should be. There'd be no escape.

As someone who has sent far less expensive balls into the water on a far less expensive course under far less competitive circumstances, I can honestly say it really does piss you off.

...with the level of expectation that there is a better than average chance that they are going to end up wet. Now a professional? He doesn't expect on his worst day to sink multiple ones.

That's my point. I can only imagine how pissed off that would make me, knowing I shouldn't be sending balls into the drink.

Daly's picture should be in the dictionary next to "Racial Double-Standard". Can you imagine if he'd done everything he has done but he was black? He'd be universally hated and never get a sponsor's exemption, instead of STILL being one of the most popular players out there. He's a "gool ol' boy" instead of an immature, entitled punk doncha know (yeah, right).

Nah, he's comic relief, and always has been. That he managed to win a couple of majors while doing it only adds to the comedic effect.

We expect Daly to be an ass, and always have.

The man is an alcoholic, and a mean one at that. He can get a bit violent. He's not too great with social interaction, either...

...and Australia is banning him from playing for this? Really?

The impression I got was that Daly had already decided by the time he took his tee-shot on that hole (11th?) that he no longer wanted to be there. He'd already badly farked up the previous two holes, and just wanted off the course. He put those balls into the water deliberately.

I can't remember which course it was at, exactly, but a few years back he had another meltdown at a course in Australia. He threw his putter into a lake. It was fished out and is now framed behind the clubhouse bar over a plaque saying that "This putter was kindly donated by John Daly".

That's why I banned myself from golf.
