Subby rips one of the few artists out there who can actually sing?

I'm not saying you have to buy her albums. I'm suggesting the woman can sing, which Fark always biatches no one can do anymore.

Why use cotton balls when drug stores sell foam earplugs?

There was something about her eating cotton balls at one point. I don't know. Google it.

Stronger voice = larger amount of cotton balls that we will have to stuff in our ears

Mariah Carey sings crappy generic hip-hop songs these days, but she has a great voice. I say the same thing about Whitney Houston (well, back before crack), Beyonce and Celine Dion. I don't like what they choose to sing but anyone who says that they can't sing is an idiot.

/still enjoy Mariah's first album

Nice tits, though.

Did you know that Whitney Houston's debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston had 4 number one singles on it? It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

Fantasy
One Sweet Day (which was good till you hear it a million times)
Always be my baby
All I want for Christmas is you
Dreamlover
Hero (till it got overplayed too)
That cover she did of I'll be there with some guy on her Unplugged Album
Emotions

She went all super whore when "Butterfly" came out. Still attractive, still could sing. Music was "meh" at best.

Then a few years ago she started putting out better stuff again.

We Belong Together
Say Somethin
Her cover of "I want to know what Love is" shows she's still got the pipes (although she certainly does look pregnant with twins in this video).

Why yes, I am a fan. No, I do not live in my mother's basement. Yes, I have had sex with a real woman. I simply lilke Mariah Carey. Even though she was a slut for a while.

Does anyone who writes these articles even know what an octave is?

Screaming in three octaves isn't talent...

Fortunately, talent isn't a prerequisite for success in today's music world.

So yes, I'm sort of white knighting here. She will not have sex with me. I understand this.

That being said, she could always hit a high note and it's not screaming.

May I ask who you think is a good singer?

I personally think Stevie Kincks and this Adele chick are good examples of who i think can sing well.

She had a beautiful voice and wasted it on singing crap.

I dunno. "Vision of Love" (new window) is one of those songs that gets in my head and won't dislodge itself.

For pop? Sara Bareilles has such a soulful voice for a white chick. Sarah McLachlan has a hauntingly beautiful voice and is a solid musician.

For more classically oriented stuff, I'm kinda partial to Michelle Federer and Kate Aldrich, but that's because I know them both personally.

All voices with amazing soul and expression, but I wouldn't call them pedagogically great.

Mariah has a terrific voice. Problem is, she feels compelled to sing every note that exists in the spectrum of music in every syllable. And that makes me stabby.

For female vocalists, I rather like Maria McKee, Janis Ian, Etta Jones (yes, Jones), Toni Harper, Melody Gardot, Imelda May, Mavis Staples, Sarah Vaughan, Ann Wilson, Lucinda Williams & Nina Simone. And though I'm not usually an opera fan, Dawn Upshaw has one of the most incredible voices I've heard.

She forever ruined them when she got the implants in 2001.

Also the crazy and the Glitter that year too.
