He was throwing deep to ford until he got hurt, then to moore. Are you seriously starting DHB still?

merkey88: He was throwing deep to ford until he got hurt, then to moore. Are you seriously starting DHB still?

Yeah. Kept Moore on the bench. He had a good first week with Palmer so I was hoping last week was a misnomer.

Plus everyone kept screaming that DHB would be a bad start this week. So I completely ignored them in hopes the fantasy gods would shine down. It didn't work.

And of course Philip Rivers would suck the year I have him on my fantasy team. Fark you, Marmalard.

Maybe I haven't realy been paying attention but I sure do see alot of reporting about how one team lost instead of how the other team was simply better and beat them and talk about how good/better the winning team is doing.

The Chargers were picked by some alleged experts to win the Super Bowl this year. Their amusing (and entirely predictable) series of failures are a big deal.

You make a better point though. Right now, the Raiders (and probably every other team in the AFC West) are simply better than the Chargers.

What ever happened to the Chargers leaving San Diego if they didn't get a new stadium?

2011-11-11 10:32:11 AM
There was a game last night? Seriously, though. I have seen numerous Norv Turner-coached teams. Paper champions, each and every one of them. He has a great offensive mind, but somehow lacks motivation/organization.

I like there this slide is taking them, makes it a better game for the Ravens in a few weeks.

Follow his career. Like I said earlier, he is an awesome OC. So, generally what happens is that he will coach for a while, have dramatic success in the first two seasons, but get bounced abruptly from the playoffs. Then the team will slowly disintegrate for about two or three seasons until he is fired. He will immediately pick up an OC spot, and after a few seasons, a team will say "OHMIGOD! NORV!" and bring him aboard, completely overlooking his failures as a head coach in favor of his successes as an OC.

/Norv is the poor man's Marty Schottenheimer

Broktun: So if Denver beats KC on Sunday, they are tied for the AFC West lead?

No, Oakland would have it outright at 5-4.

Denver, SD, and KC would be in a 3-way tie for 2nd/3rd/4th at 4-5.

Broktun: So if Denver beats KC on Sunday, they are tied for the AFC West lead?

Not quite yet, since the Raiders win puts them at 5-4. If the Broncos win, Oakland will be all alone at the top of the division, with the Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers all 1 game back at 4-5.

If you can believe it...

Nah. Dusty Baker had one or two successes and has just been riding those. Norv is a good OC, and excellent one, in fact, but just not a good HC. I remember seeing a few games where Norv was the OC for the Dolphins. He had the defenses completely confused on most plays--they were dashing around, calling audibles (and time-outs) and just kept them on their toes. He is an expert in playcalling, personnel packages, and so on, and, rightfully, he should be an OC that wins all sorts of awards. Yet, he still gets HC jobs.

2011-11-11 11:32:18 AM
Congratulations, AJ Smith. You built a Super Bowl-caliber team and proceeded to destroy it piece by piece.

And this is going to sound strange coming from a Carolina die-hard, but I really hope Phillip Rivers can find a better place to play. He doesn't deserve Norv Turner.

I wish I were a head coach with Wade Phillips as my DC and Norv Turner as my OC. I'd look like a goddamn genius and all I'd have to do is use timeouts appropriately.

They deserve each other. When one idiot fails to prevent his team from winning a big game, you know the other one will step up and ensure a loss.

2011-11-11 12:03:45 PM
Did anyone else actually watch this game? The Chargers pocket collapsed on a good 90% of plays. I've been dogging Rivers all season (on my fantasy team, too), but suddenly I understand why his performance has been so poor. He is just getting 0 help up front. His tackles, especially, couldn't block a toddler.

Probably not at liberty to say, since I never liked V-Jax, but didn't he hold out most of 2010? Maybe that and no offseason dulled his skills.

Not surprising. Last Sunday the Chargers had to go to a silent count to battle crowd noise. In San Diego.

/Was slightly confusing when I was in the next room listening to the TV. The crowd would roar, but I had no idea which team did something good.

That was absolutely pathetic.

How do you get manhandled by a team that got smoked by KC and lost to a freaking option QB at home in their last two games?

We're years past time for a change at this point. Do you put Gates on IR at this point and try to salvage what is left of his career?
