Too many Star Wars jokes!

2011-11-10 09:58:37 PM
I would think these in the desert throughout big bend would keep quite so many from dying there every year. Not that I am against illegal alien death, but dying of thirst is no way for a human to go.

But I was gonna go into Toschi Station to pick up some power converters!

Oh, and CSB time!

The mother of one of my childhood friends helped create the stillsuit costumes for Lynch's Dune. She had two of 'em hanging in her closet.

I would very much like to try on the clothes in your friends mom's closet.

Maybe even the stillsuit.

Then shop LL Bean, Eddy Bower, Columbia, Patagonia, and the like? She's a little granola, and seems to lean towards the outdoorsy clothiers.

I wonder if they're similar to binary loadlifters.

Low tech is one thing. Cost of production is another and I don't see any such numbers. Then there is the issue of these things being stolen for the copper.

In other news, I would also like to try on the clothes in Occam's Chainsaw's childhood friend's mom's closet. Or buy them.

Hey! That sound like the "Moisture vaporators" from the original Star Wars! we should quote star wars!

I love how there's a "water" problem, when water makes up so much of the world that it's just about impossible to not have enough usable water.

This is great!!

But if IFC traced the harvester back to these inventors, they may have learned who they sold them to,

and that would lead them back...

*shocking realization*
*worried exasperation*

GLove88mph: Too many Star Wars jokes!

I'm terribly sorry, but the fact that Mr. Lucas flat out stole the concept of the windtrap from Frank Herbert precludes any positive reaction to such non-humor on my part.

Lucas is a joke, whereas Herbert was a Genius.

Not exactly new nor lo-tech.

Link (new window)

"Condensation traps have been in use since the pre-Incan peoples inhabited the Andes"

also

"One method to increase the water output is to urinate into the pit before placing the receptacle in"

/Who knew?

Nice to see someone come up with a solution that uses a geothermal cycle rather than an ammonia absorption cycle. Much easier to deal with, although the word 'turbine' implies it needs power.

The ground is colder than the surface and water vapor condenses when it cools. Anyone with access to clay can use this.
