Thankfully, they revamped the skills system. I still don't like it, but it is a little better now.

A perpetual objective for the player is to improve their character's skills, which are numerical representations of their ability in certain areas. There are eighteen skills divided evenly between the three schools of combat, magic and stealth, and training until the necessary required experience is met, results in the player's character leveling-up. Previous Elder Scrolls games made use of a class system to determine which skills would contribute to the character's leveling, but its removal in Skyrim allows for a preferred play-style to be developed naturally. When their character levels, the player may choose to select a skill-specific ability called a perk, or store perks for later use. Upon levelling fifty times, the player character can continue to level and earn perks, but the rate of levelling is slowed significantly.

Fallout 3 was essentially based off of the technology for a game called Oblivion. This is the sequel, so to speak, for Oblivion.

Short version: It's Fallout 3, but set in fantasy world, and with all-new technology and graphics.

I saw the links on the site. They looked good. The scenery is amazing. I don't know. I just hope it isn't a lesser FO3. I never placed Oblivion or any Elder Scrolls game before- so I can't say.

I don't game a lot. But I do enjoy fantasy. If don't right. Oh and I don't play online with others.

There was some worry about that, but to my understanding, the engine has been completely rebuilt. I might be wrong on this, since I've basically stopped paying attention to news about the game after it became obvious (6 months ago) that I was going to buy it.

If you like the latest Fallout games then you'll probably like the Oblivion / Skyrim stuff. The scenery is much prettier, but you have medieval weapons instead of guns. I prefer the desolation and guns of Fallout, but both are good.

That's my favorite machinima ever. The story and the animations are whatever, but the sheer power and style of the mods in play is breathtaking. Mods are what's made the Elder Scrolls series my favorite games of all time. I once played Morrowind on an XBox for about an hour before I just turned away. PC Gaming for the win.

Picking this up directly after work tonight. For once I'm actually glad I get off work late. I'm hoping for the best (mix between FO3 and Oblivion) and the dreading the worst (bad bad BAD parts of NV).
