He's just proven himself to be exceptionally stupid. He should be a shoe-in.

This is just so much fun to watch. I knew the GOP primary was going to be a freakshow, but goddamn, if I'd known it would be this bad I would have gone to Sam's Club for popcorn.

2011-11-10 12:05:45 PM
I'm calling this as his "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" moment.

"Nooobody expects the modern GOP! Our chief weapon is fear...loathing of taxes and fear...fear and loathing of taxes.... our TWO weapons are fear and loathing of taxes...and anti-abortion laws.... Our THREE weapons are fear, loathing of taxes, and anti-abortion laws...and an almost fanatical devotion to Ronald Reagan.... Our four...no... amongst our weapons.... amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, loathing of taxes.... I'll come in again."

I liked him better when he was drunk.

Shostie: I'm calling this as his "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" moment.

My thoughts exactly.

2011-11-10 12:26:21 PM
On Fox News this morning, he said: "You know what today is, it's the 236th birthday of the of United States Marine Corps. If there was a day to quit, this isn't it. We're going to continue to work."

Exactly. Make like a tree and leaf on Arbor Day.

"There are three herps I would like to derp. 1) Herp. 2) Derp. And 3)...uh...shoot, I forgot the third herp. No, wait! It was herpa-derp! That one always gets me."

Get rid of the Department of Education: obviously this is a good idea. What did the Department of Education ever do for people like Rick Perry? Not much. 77 billion dollars a year down the drain.

Get rid of the Department of Commerce: Who really needs to foster trade with other countries? Patents? Those are for suckers. This department costs us 8.8 billion dollars a year.

Get rid of the Department of Energy: Like nuclear plants need federal regulators breathing down their necks, making sure that they handle nuclear materials responsibly! History has shown that corporations can police themselves quite well. 29 billion dollars a year just wasted for nothing.

Now if you take that 115 billion dollars, and multiply it by 10, then you'll have enough money to balance the budget. I am a freaking economic genius. I should be President.

"What's that 'multiply by 10' part?" Ah, I see you are some kind of math major. The best way to multiple that 115 billion dollar savings into 1.15 trillion dollars is to invest it into the stock market! I tell you, this Groupon thing is going to go nuts. We'll be guaranteed to make huge bank off of IPO's like that.

It's one thing to work overtime invoking the spirit, hair, and wrinkles of Ronald Reagan. But dude...The Alzheimer's came LATER.

It couldn't be painted any clearer if he was wearing a tanker's helmet and spelling "potato" to school children while he was up there.

Oops...

I loved watching the morons at FOX News making excuses for him this morning.

They like 'em dumb in the GOP.

"Oh, my God, it was just horrible. Just horrible," said Hamilton County GOP Chairman Mark Greenfield, who has endorsed Perry. "I felt very bad for him. It happens. But it shouldn't happen when you run for president. It was very embarrassing for everyone."

The whole GOP primaries are embarrassing for everyone.

Is it ironic that Perry's *failure* to say something stupid turns out to be his undoing?

I can only hope that aliens from outer space are not watching this. If I were them, I'd destroy our planet for fear of our stupid spreading to other systems.

I, for one, welcome our stupidity-eradicating alien overlords.

Eddie Adams from Torrance: Is it ironic that Perry's *failure* to say something stupid turns out to be his undoing?

It's a reversal of expectations so...yeah, I could see that being ironic.

Obviously, you haven't been paying attention. The way to multiply it by 10 is to cut taxes on the wealthy by 10 times that much! After all, they're the job creators, and if you cut their taxes some more they'll create the living shiat out of a bunch of jobs and we'll all get rich too! It's simple economics, which you LIEberals clearly don't understand.

Cyberluddite: The way to multiply it by 10 is to cut taxes on the wealthy by 10 times that much!

No, you just stick another zero at the end of that. That's how you multiply something by 10.

Wasn't he in the Air Force? shouldn't he quit on whenever there birthday is?

Do they have a Birthday?

2011-11-10 01:04:42 PM
I don't really understand why Perry is in this race. Did he really think we were going to elect another Texas governor that is even dumber than that last catastrophe? Is he pushing a book, too? Is that what it is? I can't imagine too many people are going to be throwing money at him for speaking engagements based on the last two debates.

He should have at least scribbled some notes on his hand, ffs.

Soup4Bonnie: I don't really understand why Perry is in this race. Did he really think we were going to elect another Texas governor that is even dumber than that last catastrophe?

Apparently so. Remember that he surged to the lead of the Republican pack as soon as he entered the race. This, of course, was before he made the huge mistake of opening his mouth and spewing out his usual herpaderp..

Even if he had named the third department he wanted to get rid of, the fail level would have been about the same.

There is no way you can convince me that the GOP isn't intentionally foisting these morons on us just to make Romney look good by comparison.

For sane people, yes. For Republican Primary voters, not so much. They like all that 'destroy all government' crap.

I don't care for Perry, but seriously - why do we need a Dept. of Education bureaucracy at the Federal level when all actual teaching is done at the state / local level? If it's just to distribute tax dollars and administer loan programs, can't Treasury or something do it? Dept. of Education's big initiative has been "Leave No Child Behind", which everyone recognizes has been a massive failure. Can anyone give me a serious answer without calling me a teabagger and/or rassist?

2011-11-10 02:08:38 PM
All of the ridiculous volume of incredible derp coming from Perry, and THIS, just a brainfart, is what will cost him the nomination?

Sounds about right.

Dean was WAY less embarrassing though. Shows you what the degree of idiocy is for failing to get the GOP nomination.

Serious answer, it contains the Office of Federal Student Aid, who does the FAFSA.

Comically, they're investigating Penn State.

FOX said we should not judge someone based on a gaffe.

Meanwhile, Obama's 57 states? Could it mean the 57 Nations of Islam? Where is your daughter right now? Who will kill you today? Stay tuned.

2011-11-10 02:20:04 PM
Meh, I would'nt vote for Rick Perry with *your* vote but this isn't worth talking about much.. It was a gaffe, the words escaped him. Happens to me in conversation all the time. Point at him and laugh and then move on. Vote (for someone else) based on the substance.

This is in no way a defense of Perry (can't stand the farker) but the Department of Education is to actual education what the Department of Homeland Security is to actual security.

Gotcha question.

2011-11-10 02:23:57 PM
the_geek: Vote (for someone else) based on the substance.

Yeah, the substance is that he can't decide whether to abolish the EPA or not. Energy and Education? Gone.

The fact that he would casually eliminate entire departments of the government is much worse than the fact that he can't even remember which departments he would casually abolish.

Oddly, as much as I dislike Perry, I couldn't enjoy watching that. It was just too painful to watch. I didn't think I could feel any empathy for Perry, but I was cringing when I saw him implode like that on television.

LikeTheSearchEngine: All of the ridiculous volume of incredible derp coming from Perry, and THIS, just a brainfart, is what will cost him the nomination?

Yeah, what's being lost in this is that this freaking nut actually intends to completely cut the Department of Education and the Department of Energy.

He should have just dropped and Tebowed when he knew he was drawing a blank.

I also agree with this. But I would rather take it apart and try to put it back together than just cut it out entirely. The education system is terrible in American but cutting it will only hurt it more.

Except he won't end up with a modicum of respect the way Dean did. He'll just go back to being another unthinking, undeserving, incurious, self-righteous, narcisistic loudmouth from Texas.
