I wish there were a more legit sounding way to donate to this kid than his dad's hotmail address.

2011-11-10 09:12:56 AM
Sweet story, but did the kid write it, too? The editor must have been out sick that day.

That is humanity at its best.

I just wanted to say that, as an Atlanta resident, I think the weather girl on this channel's morning show is hawt.

Just wait until the kid learns Christmas is fake

jylcat: I wish there were a more legit sounding way to donate to this kid than his dad's hotmail address.

there's plenty of families in your own area that probably need some help, no need for everyone to donate to this one anyways.

this. maybe we can e-mail them and set up something through a more legit system?

So... they lost their house... but they didn't own it... they didn't have rental insurance... would that have helped? If they couldn't afford rent, how can they afford a hotel... which even on priceline is going to set you back $1800 a month. A lot of this doesn't add up. But I am glad the kids living in a hotel room are going to get some new toys, that'll cheer them up for a couple days.

macross87: Just wait until the kid learns Christmas is fake

Christmas is real. I've seen it happen many times. There's the trees and lights and presents and people getting pissed off at the mall and awkward family dinners. It's quite the tradition.

2011-11-10 10:29:23 AM
Selfish little brat should be grateful that he at least has fa roof over his head and food to eat.

2011-11-10 10:29:27 AM
I think there is a clear cut conflict of interest in this.

The kid should recuse himself from benefiting from Christmas while soliciting donations.

dusty in here today.

@karmaceutical

There are tons of hotels that rent out by the week or month and charge substantially less when you do so. Most hotels that you wouldnt think would, will do so if you ask the management.

/the more you know

Broke family, living in a motel: 'Sorry son, there might not be a Christmas this year.' 7-year old son former neighbor's kid: 'Not on my watch. So help me God Christmas is happening'

FTFY. And it said "motel," not hotel. I very much doubt the roach palaces that are welfare hotels are going to show up on Priceline.

2011-11-10 10:30:57 AM
"God Christmas" sounds like a 1970's Santa Claus themed Mecha.

2011-11-10 10:31:37 AM
The dad's email address contains the numbers 1980, implying that he was born in that year and is now 31 years old.

He has a 12 year old and 10 year old twins. Somehow, I don't think this Christmas will be the family's last challenge.

2011-11-10 10:32:06 AM
No Christmas? Well then, Festivus for the rest of us.

How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

there are crapy extended stay hotels that are like $150-$200 a week..
Not worth even that but me thinks you over shot your estimate there.

How much more off the daily rate? Still cheaper than renting a middle of the road 3 bedroom in any city on the eastern seaboard?

2011-11-10 10:34:08 AM
ugg... up here we have morons with no tenant insurance that burn their own houses down near christmas and prey on the public's good will to make their christmas even better.

Twice now in the last two years there have been major cases where people were duped into the sob stories and its gotten so no one cares anymore :(

Age 18 and 20 when having kids.
Not the best life choice, but hardly a shocking age.

50 years ago and that would be a fine age to have children because the man could get a decent job that with hard work would be able to move up in the company. Now, of course, even a degree and hard work doesn't always give you that chance.

Read the farking article. It is friends of the family -- not the little kid's family. The dad is the dad of the kid -- not the family in need.

I need to find a legible version of the story.

Good on you, kid.

"They did not have renter's insurance and have no where else to go."

Well, you should always have renter's insurance but it is not gonna help you pay the rent.

So help me God, I'm stealing cheese for this Christmas.

Never understood the motel thing. Every extended stay motel I've ever heard of was more expensive than a very decent 1 bedroom apartment, and that includes utilities. I'm assuming it's a "we'll supply the furniture" thing that makes it so expensive. I was at a motel party here in Vegas and someone told me the place was $350 a week. $1400 a month. Like I said, that's a good apartment with utilities.

Will Christmas come without gongoozlers and kolchinckas?

Little boy blue, he needed the money.

most landlords require at least 1 month's security deposit so if you don't have the extra money on hand a motel is a better way to go. Plus if it is a temporary thing you don't want to be locked into a lease with a crappy apt if you get back on your feet in a few months

This is actually much less selfish.

Now that that's cleared all that up: Taekwondo community service project? Huh? What kind of crappy martial arts school is that?

I'm not sure 18 was ever a good age to have a kid.

Extended stay hotels can be found for $30/day. So that's basically $90/month with all utilities, furnishing, cleaning, and internet included and they have a small kitchen. I've seen them advertise $179/week as well.

They aren't the Ritz Carlton. But I wouldn't mind living in one.

Been picking up the pace on food, coat and toy donations this year...I know there are a lot of families out there in need...

That's a good idea. Just email them and get their bank account information so that we can make direct deposits.

Where are the ten million churches that are littered all over Atlanta? Not a single church with a member with a rent house that can help a needy family out? Seriously? I mean, really?

2011-11-10 10:52:42 AM
Since the beginning of October, Bradley has spent his spare-time earning money. He helps the neighbors and collects money at church.

"Helping organize stuff, a lot of stuff. I keep on forgetting what I do," said Bradley.

He's not earning money. He's begging and guilting people into charity.

Here you go:

Your elderly horse has been put down. Do you C) strip naked and pose for pictures in its carcass (new window)
