Hmmm, good point. Give all their seized marijuana to Occupy Denver people. Then, once they are good and baked they can lead them away with a Doritos van to California......or if they are jerks, into the Canadian Tundra.

The police should have asked for a liasion, not a leader. A liasion could communicate as needed, but decision-making would be left to the assembled, and therefore the liasion could not be used to shoehorn the entire occupation into an action only agreed upon by the authorities and the "leader".

These people may actually be serious about decentralized organization.

Forced Perspective: Car_Ramrod: What's with the "I, state your name" community speech?

Also:

"At the DNC riot, we were able to locate a few of the leaders and talk to them directly, but for Occupy Denver we can't go around and talk to everyone in the park directly," Matthew Murray, public information officer for the Denver Police Department, said in a Westward post.

This seems like a reasonable request for a leader.

It runs contrary to the entire premise of OWS, which is to have no stated agenda and to be mad about "things." Electing a leader would require them to have, among other things, some sort of criteria for membership and some sort of coherent agenda. That's pre-Obama thinking. Now all you need is platitudes and the media will fellate you.*

*Offer only valid for socialists.

*eyeroll*

Anyways, OWS at its core is a very valid movement formed in response to growing income inequality, domination of govenment by monied interest, corporate personhood, degradation of workers rights, and general disparity of rights between the rich and the "99%".

However, without struction or leadership, it is devolving rapidly, which allows for a loss of focus, and makes the movement more likely to be co-opted by outside groups with seperate agendas (most notably anarchists who just like to stir up trouble). This allows the entire movement to be disregarded as aimless rabblerousers who want nothing more than chaos. If the movement is serious about getting things done, it needs leaders. Stunts like this do not help them in any way and make them look like assholes, frankly.

Try attributing some fake demands to that.

Keep up the good work, protesters. If you continue to do retarded shiat like this there is no way that the 1% will ever take you seriously. They already think you are a bunch of crackpots, and this is how you want to improve your image? Again, keep up the good works. The 1% actually approves of your decision.

To be fair, we don't care what the 99% thinks either. They're farking morons and that's why they're poor. We own this country. Literally. So, they can either suck it up and get a job, or they can sit on their asses in parks and get arrested. Either way, we're going to get our money.

I was extremely pissed off when I noticed my local Occupy group begging for "dog food for a 70 lb. dog." There is absolutely no reason to bring a dog to the protest, especially if you can't feed it. Completely ignoring the fact that it's an unnecessary drain on resources, a protest camp is a very unsafe place to bring a large dog. If the crowd goes wild, or if the shiat goes with the police, that dog is either going to end up hurt, or end up hurting someone. How irresponsible, wasteful, and stupid. It's shiat like this that keeps people on the fence from taking the movement seriously.

Seriously though I'm still waiting to hear some outcome or goal or something that makes some sort of sense. You want to change the government. Vote. Motivate others to vote. You want to change corporations? Quit spending money with them. Motivate others to quit - get enough like minded people together and put them out of business. I could go on. I guess I just don't understand what a bunch of people standing around in downtown New Orleans or Denver or Wall Street is supposed to achieve exactly.

Dammit, Farking This!

I understand they want to keep this thing light hearted, but really, I thought this movement was about, oh, I dunno, actually changing something.

They should be taking all that money that people are floating in for tents and sandwiches and start the process of building political candidacy. Hell, the tea-party got Michelle Bachmann on a ticket and she's got the mental acuity of a half-chewed cashew.

There've been alot of theories as to why we in Canada have managed to gain a somewhat centered government over the years, and the most prevalent one involves our three party system, with a Right(Conservatives), a semi-Center(Liberal), and a Center-Left Party(NDP). I won't pretend for a second that our government is a rose garden. We have gridlock, bickering and scandals to our name, but there is at least some day-to-day representation for the working man in the House of Commons that must be recognized and courted.
Alliances form on compromise, and measures are actually taken with all voters in mind; no party in Canada can ever afford to play solely to the constituency it wants to acknowledge, which is why we have kept our healthcare system, and have maintained some controls over our financial institutions despite intense back-door pressures from the monied elite. The States are stuck with the Proud Corporate Whore party and the Reluctant Corporate Whore party, and nothings ever going to change for the vast majority of Americans without asses in seats in the house.

Doesn't matter if it takes another several election cycles-you know that you have to get representative in there. Hell, you might have some frustrated Democrats jump the isle for you.

You don't understand. Taking 'personal responsibility' is for poor people. It's their fault that they didn't lie, cheat, and steal their way rich. The rules only apply if you break one or two. Make it habitual and call yourself a businessman, then you're clear.
