From which they can then promptly escape and go to the Los Angeles underground, and survive as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... these guys.

Being a veteran doesn't excuse you from being a shiatbag. They abandoned their military bearing earning their way in to prison.

Pretty much this. You get some leeway in other aspects but crime ain't one of them. Unless you kill snooki

Life in the dorms differs from standard prison life in several ways, including daily flag raising and retiring ceremonies and the use of military standards in maintaining inmates' clothing, bunks and living areas. Staff in the dorms have military backgrounds as well.

What all the gays?

This seems like a pretty good idea... the guards there know what kind of training the inmates have... but also, it's a better way to get mental help to people who, though criminally competent to stand trial, are mentally broken. Aside from that, let's not pretend all crimes are the same... if a homeless vet is run in for vagrancy and public urination because the law hates the homeless, lets not pretend the nature of the offense was the same as a murderer or rapist.

Everyone knows leeway for crimes is only for if you're rich, and since nobody ever got rich in the military, it stands to reason they should do the time.

2 hours in jail for repeated DUIs and probation violations if you're a movie star
2 years in jail for the same thing if you served your country and drink to cope with ptsd.

but no, I like your idea better, why give them "leeway" like mental health treatment or having the VA work with them to try to smooth their already bumpy transition into civi society...

Seriously, if we were talking about cutting sentences or something like that, I'd be with you... but what we're talking about is giving them some semblance of the order they know, getting them mental help, and trying to help them be productive citizens when they return to civi-land.

Trolltastic, subby!
Nice flip on the "all cops/military are actually criminals" meme here on Fark.

Well it's a system that has been crafted, maintained, and run exclusively by lawyers. What did you expect?

/most of our politicians were also lawyers, explains a lot doesn't it?

DUI punishments really aren't that serious. I met a lowlife who got his tenth DUI and was out in a couple days.

What is this Nanny State bullshiat? Someone who is man enough to serve in the military shouldn't need the government to take care of him!
