DEAR PENTHOUSE MAGAZINE: I never thought it would happen to me, but, the minute my aide Ira and I walked in they mobbed me. A friendly crowd of them said things like, "Barry, we love you!" as they boldly unbuttoned my jacket, loosened my collar, took off my necktie and splotched lipstick on my shirt. All the while, one of them was taking picture after picture. It was obviously a setup to destroy my campaign. I even recognized a few of the women as far-left journalists. "We'd better get out of here fast," I told Ira. "It's too late for that," he correctly noted. "It's too late after the first picture. Just enjoy the party and leave the rest to me."

40 years ago, touching random women while cultivating a boner was okay.

Therefore, it's still okay.

And even in the 80's it was legal to fire woman from white collar jobs, like SWengineer, even in California, just for getting pregnant. Woman's rights have come a long way. Why would we say Cain is ok because it used to be common practice to screw woman (ha ha! double entendre) left and right.

If you remember anything about Clinton it was "lying about sex didn't matter". So I listened and have applied their life lesson.

I don't know if I would vote for Cain (in the primary), but I would vote for him over the wet behind the ears clueless leader the DNC is going to throw at us for reelection.

The guy left office over 10 years ago. Isn't there some sort of statute of limitations on "b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but Clinton" responses? Plus, I'm no fan of Bubba Clinton, but IIRC correctly, he was impeached for lying about getting a consensual blowjob, not for engaging in unwanted sexual harassment, so I'm not sure what his actions have to do with this anyway.

You know what? There are waitstaff that I can do that with today. Guess what? We're friends, and we are affectionate with one another. That doesn't mean that I approach ALL my staff the same way. There are staff that it's appropriate to do this with, and there are staff that it's NOT appropriate with. The key is understanding that difference. For managers, that's not always easy.

I recently had a colleague who didn't understand why this was. He got nailed by complaints by HIS staff that he touched them without their consent. That he routinely made them feel uncomfortable. He tried to reason that there were other managers that hugged and were close to, and that he was being held to a different standard. The reply by HR was: what consenting adults do is their business. These people are complaining that they didn't consent to you pawing on them. Woman hugs you, and you hug back. Woman holds you at arm's length, you don't press in closer.

Each relationship at work is different. Some guys don't like to be clapped on the back. Some guys don't like you ribbing them about their Mom. Some women you don't talk about their mothers or their home life. Some gals will tell you every intimate detail about their life. Some will hug you, some won't. You have to thread these relationships based on what THEY'RE comfortable with, not with what YOU think they SHOULD be comfortable with.

You don't understand that, then maybe you'd be better off punching numbers into machines, because managing people may be too much for you.

I agree. I can't stand touchy feely people.

I've got good friends I've known for 30 years that I've never hugged or had more physical contact with beyond a hand shake or a pat on the shoulders...

Y'know, it wasn't all that long ago that you could enjoy the rich taste of a Chesterfield at your desk. I am old, so it was almost 20 years ago when I started my first job in a law firm (in the early 1990s), but even then, we were allowed to smoke in our offices if we wanted to (and we were only supposed to smoke cigarettes indoors, not cigars, unfortunately). Secretaries, of course, who sat in cubies rather than private offices, were not allowed to smoke at their desks, but they could always go into office of an attorney who smoked, close the door, and share a smoke break in the attorney's office. And this was in San Francisco, fer Chrissake, not Nashville!

But even back then, everyone knew that doing the stuff that Cain is alleged to have done would've likely gotten your ass fired or gotten you sued, of course. And a male employee who came up behind a female employee and gave her unsolicited shoulder masage would've definitely gotten a talking to from HR.

In 1970, it was common for white people to be outraged if a black man touched a white woman.

in the 1970s, the highest marginal rate of income tax was double what it is now and the capital gains tax was over triple, so it's ok for taxes to be raised slightly in both columns today.

At the Pennsylvania Capitol House and Senate Members were allowed to smoke in their offices up until 2006! And this is in a building that couldn't be reproduced for $20 billion today.

That's right, he didn't, so that means he's free to be as libertine as he desires without consequence. Being a Democrat is a pretty sweet gig. You can get caught farking a dead goat during snack time at a preschool, but since your party has never verbalized a desire to aspire to higher values --it doesn't matter! At least he's not a hypocrite, amirite?
