I'm so glad they digitally erased JarJar Biggs out of the street race scene for the VHS release.

"I always intended to have Banthas roaming in the background of the street racing scene. Now technology has caught up to the point where I can do it."

American Graffiti 3D - the Director's Cut - coming soon!

You can find it here and there online, mostly in PAL format. I picked up a bootleg a few years ago at Midtown Comics in Manhattan for $20.

/guessing you spent some time in the mid-80's watching HBO as well ? :D

Is American Graffiti the best Lucas film ever?

Ironic question considering that Lucas reportedly feel asleep several times while directing the car cruising scenes.

Hollywood Knights is a better movie.

One of the animators on Twice Upon A Time was a young Henry Selick .. who would later go on to direct The Nightmare Before Christmas .. and, more recently, Coraline.

/OTOH, he also directed Monkeybone -_-

Interesting to think that the film is set in 1962 and was released in 1973. I wouldn't imagine a film being marketed today based on its year 2000 setting.

My dad firmly considers American Graffiti as Lucas' best film. He's not really into "space."

heh

Oh yes, because Star Wars was such a crappy movie. Fark you all.

2011-11-09 03:08:08 PM
American Graffiti already has gotten the Lucas treatment. He has redone things with his digital paintbrush.

Also the scene in which Steve and Laurie have to dance together is the best scene Lucas has ever directed. He has never, repeat NEVER come close to that humanity in any of his other movies.

domo_kun_sai: Oh yes, because Star Wars was such a crappy movie. Fark you all.

It was NOT crappy until he started messing with it, so fark YOU.

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: heh

Happy Days....that show about retarded 30 year olds in the 1950's who never seem to be able to graduate from High School?

2011-11-09 03:37:55 PM
THX and the short student film it was based on was so trippy. How come he never recaptured that quality? You could argue Star Wars is trippy due to its space/fantasy elements, but they lack that surreal, psychedelic quality.

2011-11-09 04:37:25 PM
What about American Graffiti's prequel, Radioland Murders?

PREQUEL!

Righto. Any movie that features Lea Thompson's butt goes directly to the top of the list.

Great! Now that you've brought it up, George is going to f*ck it all up in the restoration.

Lucas will CGI Papa John Philips over Paul LaMat's head in the scenes with Mackenzie Phillips.

That movie created a monster that took over my life. I got so turned on by the 50's musics that I began a quest to find and hear everything from 1970 on back. Today I am living in a nice home filled with tens of thousands of records that I bought over the last 38 years. My wife nags me all the time about how I turned our living room into a library. The bad thing is that my time is nearly up and I have no one to leave them to. None of the kids care about old music and I shudder to think what will happen to them after I'm gone. Anyway, American Graffiti turned me into a record collector and I've loved oldies every since.

It's easily his best movie. I loved the first Star Wars movies when they came out, but they're fun. American Graffiti is a ton of fun, but a lot more than that.

However it doesn't have any slo-mo kung fu scenes where a guy does a backflip while shooting two enormous pistols in opposite directions so yes it's definitely old-fashioned.

Episode 1 was his best movie if you take out every scene without Darth Maul in it.

American Graffiti is good, but I like the second film better -- it's darker...
