So after adding trillions to the budget, he is going to cut programs that may save millions? And that merits a "spiffy" tag?

Democrats, is there any math you can ever comprehend?

/will have to buy my US Government screenprinted coffee mug now instead of pilfering it at some tradeshow

Yeah, he should really have defunded NPR or something with some real financial impact. *rolls eyes*

Look, we get it's minor. But it's something. Waste is waste no matter the dollar value.

If that is what you want, then why not.

I was thinking more along the lines of removing our military from overseas activities to save hundreds of billions.

How is that Obama's fault? Ooooohhh, yes. The time machine again.

Wait, he's getting rid of government swag? I suppose he expects the private sector to take up the slack.

Nice to see Republicans predictably coming out against government waste because Obama is against it.

Grr

Can we for the love of anything get a short term edit button? Like one that goes away after 5 minutes or something?

You mean at a time when we were bombing Libya and escalating our presence in Afghanistan? Certainly not!

No, because the mod/mins dine on the tears of the typographically frustrated.

Weren't you biatching about timelines being set for withdrawing from Afghanistan a few weeks ago? Are we not pulling everyone out of Iraq? Try harder please.

Have you guys ever considered the possibility that EnviroDude may not be entirely on the level?

I don't know. Just throwing that out there. It may be hard to believe, but sometimes people misrepresent themselves on the internet.

You mean that operation where we deployed no troops and Libyans pledged to pay us back?

...and escalating our presence in Afghanistan? Certainly not!

I had assumed you were talking about or troops in Germany, South Korea, and other global locations. Not just troops serving under Obama. Had that been the case I might have had some agreement with you.

Doesn't matter. Your only goal is to find every possible way to criticize Obama, even when he does something OK. Mission accomplished you little trooper you.

I contracted to the DoD Finance and Accounting Service for roughly five years.

It was...sobering.

sammyk: Weren't you biatching about timelines being set for withdrawing from Afghanistan a few weeks ago? Are we not pulling everyone out of Iraq? Try harder please.

Biatching? Probably not. But I do remember that candidate Obama made several promises about Iraq/Afghanistan/Gitmo that have yet to be filled. Though his recent proclamation about getting us out of Iraq is a small step to filling one of those promises (a couple of years late).

My gripe was that he circumvented congress to bomb Libya. He would have gotten the permission, if he had sought it. The absence of protests and defense of all things about it from the left about it is pretty funny.

Diogenes: Doesn't matter. Your only goal is to find every possible way to criticize Obama, even when he does something OK. Mission accomplished you little trooper you.

I have actually agreed with Obama. I think the best speech he has ever read (aside from the one where he thanked himself for having himself over) was the death announcement of OBL. But when you hang the entire success of your foreign policy on it, you come up short.

Can't be critical of the POTUS if you are a liberal? Sounds like facism to me.

/not claiming to be liberal/progressive/democrat (though I did vote for one yesterday - he lost).

I have my criticisms. Doing away with swag and trinkets isn't one of them.

Considering that spending is controlled by congress and not the president, I wouldn't expect too much.

I don't really understand how he is going to accomplish much with executive orders.

2011-11-09 12:17:14 PM
Insignificant, but what else is he going to do if Congress won't get off their asses?

WTF is this guy's problem?

2011-11-09 02:36:18 PM
There really isn't much "waste". Pretty much everything is purchased for a reason. Or at least contains a plausible justification.

2011-11-09 02:39:47 PM
executive order to cut some $4 billion of dollars

weird phrasing...

2011-11-09 02:47:07 PM
Truly, he is history's swag's greatest monster

2011-11-09 02:47:08 PM
Seems somewhat symbolic, but perhaps he can shame Congress into action.. no wait, they have no shame..

2011-11-09 02:47:20 PM
But did Obama sign his name using a different pen for each letter so that everyone around him could have one?

2011-11-09 02:48:47 PM
So he is cutting $4billion in spending and conservatives are moaning about the fact that he is only cutting millions? Well sure - I suppose if the phrase "Four thousand millions" is the vernacular kids are using these days...

thirdspade: I'm a federal government worker. We can't even get calendars this year.

I never saw so much farking waste as when I worked for the feds. "Use it or lose it" and boy, did they come up with ways to use it, so they could ask for more the next year.

Thankfully, I'll probably never have to see that kind of profligacy again. I lost my job. Budget cuts, you know.

Honestly, this is one of the things I do kind of agree with Ron Paul on. I don't think we should remove all of our precense I think we should morph our overall presence. 2-4 major military bases globally with dry docks capable of repairing carrier battle groups. Put together 2-3 more carrier groups and reduce our overall military size in half.

Land battles are out. They have been for a long time. Being a more modern military is more effective than sticking to our old model of sticking a base everywhere a pair of boots lands.
