From the article it appears that customs agents did their job and investigated
a mislabeled package which contained a phosphorous flare. Not much excitement.
I'm sure the flare would have been dangerous if it had somehow triggered.

yeah, because things like airborne parcels aren't tracked and routed.

What were the planning to do? Get the package out to the runway and yell out "hey, which of you planes are heading west???"

I did that job for 8 weeks when I was going to school in Columbus, OH for UPS. Cool gig.

I loved it when the amnesty boxes outside the terminal would had a grenade in them. fake or real...didn't matter. just watching everyone run was almost entertainment in and of itself.

Used to use trip flares when I was in the infantry. Sure are fun but don't want to get too close or have them rolling about in an aircraft.
