That's cool.

So when are they sending people into space again?

How much more black could it be?

The answer is none. None more black.

2011-11-09 10:12:45 AM
Will they make a frictionless spaceship out of it? Because that would be cool.

2011-11-09 10:13:35 AM
Too bad it won't work.

Joke people....

Dolemite is the obvious answer, if they don't call it that they have squandered a great opportunity.

Thank you.

The exhausts of Necromonger ships work in reverse thus the dark clouds that appear around their vessels. They utilize gravitation as an energy source.

Romanticism aside, is it worthwhile to send people into space?

So could this material absorb radar? It could be useful to make a car out of it...

2011-11-09 10:21:08 AM
A material that is blacker than black? Emo kids of the world, rejoice! Or, well... at least cry a little quieter for a few seconds.

2011-11-09 10:21:12 AM
I think people are missing the potential of blacker clothes for emo kids!

In all seriousness, yes they did make a materal blacker, it absorbs more light across more frequencies so you get less scattering of stray light clouding up your image.

2011-11-09 10:22:20 AM
Is it radar absorbing? if it isn't, I bet they have been locked in a room by DofD mercenaries hard at work modifying it to make it do that.

/not that there would be any use for that capability

tacojohn: So could this material absorb radar? It could be useful to make a car out of it...

I think there are cheaper coatings/materials out there that are already strong narrow band absorbers. See, current radar absortive coating.

The unique thing about this one is the wide spectrum absorptivity.

We have a coating we use at work on our radiometers that has an absorptivity in the 0.98 average range across the IR spectrum because a large majority of a fire's radiated heat is in the IR band.

Not until we throw out the d-bags that infest government at every level or the private sector picks it up.

We'll probably watch the ChiComs build their second moon base by then.

"It's the wild colour scheme that freaks me," said Zaphod whose love affair with this ship had lasted almost three minutes into the flight, "Every time you try to operate on of these weird black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up black to let you know you've done it. What is this? Some kind of galactic hyperhearse?"

The walls of the swaying cabin were also black, the ceiling was black, the seats - which were rudimentary since the only important trip this ship was designed for was supposed to be unmanned - were black, the control panel was black, the instruments were black, the little screws that held them in place were black, the thin tufted nylon floor covering was black, and when they had lifted up a corner of it they had discovered that the foam underlay also was black.
