And five minutes later, all 750 employees got a popup on their pink slip begging for them to upgrade to the latest version.

This. I know lots of people who own Photoshop. Don't think I know anyone who actually bought it.
(And at $300 or more a pop I can see why)

Does this mean I will only have to update Flash and Acrobat twice a week now instead of daily?

Yes but the hourly releases of CS will continue.

Because as number of employees approaches zero, profit approaches INFINITY.

/Funny that flood of Acrobat updates in the past few months. It's almost as if someone was working hard to keep his job...

Beat me to it. My productivity will increase as a result of this.

Does this mean that it will lower in price by a dollar?

I own it. And it certainly wasn't just $300. But if you're a regular user and don't pay such a small amount for the time spent and production gained, you're a thieving douche.

/or you could just use GIMP, if you're so against spending money
//I give you some leeway if you are a student, and plan to pay for it after you begin earning some money
///unless you're a student web designer, in which case you will never earn money

Have you seen the numbers Adobe makes on their ownership of fonts? Holy crap it's insane. I feel for them like I felt for Microsoft when they laid off 5k - they weren't in any financial straights at all, they were just using the economy as a cover for wanting to downsize and profit-take.

I bet Adobe would make a more money if they had separate consumer and business pricing models. They make an amazing set of products, but they're just way outside of the budget of a hobbyist or casual user.

Students can almost always get it for cheaper, and most people who aren't pros can get the functionality they need out of Elements.

It's because the full version of Photoshop is overpowered for just about every "home" use.

The people who pay for Photoshop are pros and businesses. Adobe makes a token effort at preventing piracy in the same way that Microsoft does. It's more important for people to be so ingrained and used to their products being that they need for work to get done, so that when they *do* get into a business situation, they'll ask/require/pay for that product.

Cuts 750 jobs? The article is either uninformed or dishonest.

Those jobs are moving to India.

That'd be the "Elements" line.

Flash is a total piece of crap, and deserves to be virtually sodomized.
