the "feature tony stark" thing isn't a given in iron man

I'm betting there's going to be Hulk Buster armor at some point in the saga (if it doesn't make it into the Avengers movie).

Ghastly: I bet he'll be fighting an antagonist.

Perhaps he'll also face his inner demons and overcome them before saving the day.

And due to budget cuts/creative differences/some pinkie swear, Don Cheadle will now play both Rhodey AND Pepper Potts.

2011-11-09 03:40:24 AM
And chances are that there will be a fair number of both good and bad superheroes that needlessly complicate the main storyline. Stories A & B are good for an hour and a half. Trying to fit more than that often detracts from the movie, as was seen in Ironman 2.

I'm sure I'll watch it, either in the theater or afterwards.

I'd love to see Ghost as an antagonist. He's simultaneously funny, creepy and sympathetic, the fight scenes would be great and the whole "anarchistic computer hacker hell-bent on bringing down big business" backstory would give the film an interesting angle on current events.

Heh, never heard of him. Sounds well meaning, but off his meds.

It will also feature a wink-and-a-nod apology for "Iron Man 2", even though it doesn't need one and was a perfectly fine movie all its own.

Loved Star Trek, and will defend the lens flares, but I hated Iron Man 2. Mostly for structural reasons, and bad writing. I can't imagine that movie passing for "perfectly fine" were I to watch it on mushrooms.

There are really good criticisms of the movie out there. Not only can people not like what you do, but they can not like it for damn good reasons. The only thing worse than people upset that people like things they don't is people with a tude because they like something despite the fact that it isn't very good. It's cool if you're easily entertained, but if someone wants to apologize for Iron Man 2, I'd say it's warrented.

You motherfarkin nerds are so HARD. I really enjoyed Iron Man II. Yeah, in retrospect, there are things that could have been done better, but overall, we should be thankful we live in an era where good Marvel movies can be made. How many millions died never knowing the beauty of these films?

2011-11-09 05:10:55 AM
I think Iron Man 2 would have been better if they had the same actor play Rhoads in both movies, either one, but otherwise it's fine.

When the villain attacked the race at the beginning of Iron Man 2, it was a perfect example of "if only someone had a gun, we could end the movie right here".

Does this mean that, when I watched a movie like Skyline or Jenifer's Body and was entertained... I fall into the second catagory. Though I love the Iron Man series and Star Trek. The two crap movies I "enjoyed" were more on the lines of pulling off the old MST3K fun while watching them. Makes any movie enjoyable at that point.

Im just curious where I fall into this. I usually dont complain about movies cause I always find some value in them.

I think Iron Man 2 actually benefited from a second viewing. A lot of the stuff that felt "off" worked better when I had the context of how it fit into the story (for example, the bloated opening at Starkfest felt like filler until you realize that it's indicative of how Tony has turned his ego up past 11).

My biggest complaint was that they used the same structure for defeating the villain that they used in the first film. Tony learns something goofy about the armor early in the movie that he utilizes to save the day at the end. In the first film, it was the effects of high altitude on the suit. In the second film, it was what happens when two repulsors are fired simultaneously at each other.

Was the stuff with his dad and the new element and all that goofy? Sure. It's the sort of goofy schtick one would expect to find in a comic bo - hey, wait a darn minute!

The loudest complaint I heard was how the whole movie was nothing but filler to set up The Avengers. I thought the stuff with SHIELD and Fury was integrated well into the storyline. At no point did I feel that the narrative slammed on the brakes to set up something that wasn't going to be paid off (as opposed to shoehorning Hawkeye into Thor).

I loved Favreau's work, but I cannot freaking wait to see what Shane Black brings to this franchise. If only he can find a way to get Gay Perry into the proceedings...

Also what was with just swapping in Cheadle? Could they have not just set him up in the first movie or had Terrence Howard sign a contract? I mean they both look the same but come on. I can't watch 1 and 2 back to back.

2011-11-09 10:19:35 AM
EXCLUSIVE: The villain also won't be Jerry Sandusky, Wall Street or Herman Cain, though Americans could do with less of all three at the moment...

2011-11-09 10:50:22 AM
Let's hope they make the franchise fun again. IM1 Tony was awesome, IM2 Tony was an obnoxious dick.

Sweet Chin Music: Let's hope they make the franchise fun again. IM1 Tony was awesome, IM2 Tony was an obnoxious dick.

I figured he was an obnoxious dick cause of the story arch with his arch chest reactor. Thats my assumption of why he was a dick. Plus, I always thought he was a dick in IM1 as well.

They already said Demon in a Bottle wont happen this time, what is very sad. I dont believe the cast will be back for another one, maybe to do Avengers 2 but not iron man 4. Someday they will reboot and things may happen

Iron Man 2, on its own, would have been an all right action movie. However, when compared to the first Iron Man, which was the best comic book-to-movie adaptation done to date (yes, I went there), it suffers.

So when minor flaws showed up in the sequel (Scarlett Johanssen making her hideous attempts at "acting", unnecessary interludes with the guy from Mad Men, Tony Stark inventing a new element by hitting shiat with a wrench), it kind of grates on those watching the movie with memories of the original.

I'm guessing they'll do the Extremis story line.

Bring Tony's origin in line with the modern version of the character and go from there.

Ok, long story short from hearsay on wikipedia: Howard got signed first and got paid the most of the cast.

So when it blew up, naturally Howard wanted the same amount of money. There were also some murmurs that might have come from Favreau that Howard would not be missed.

Nah, you're fine. Well, in my estimation anyway, for whatever that's worth. I like some bad movies too. It's when you're mad that I didn't like Jennifer's Body that there's a problem. The poster above was ornery that not everybody loved Iron Man's sequel, like it's up to us to ignore the problems because he liked it. You're not pissed off at anybody for not loving Skyline (didn't see it).

Like me, I love 3000 Miles to Graceland. I love it, one of my favorite movies easily. But if someone says it's a bad movie ... yeah probably. But I still like it. The second I'm pissed off at you for not seeing the campy crappy brilliance that I do, though, and I'm a douche.

I agree: You can usually find something of value in any film, because somewhere along the way either A) there was something initially compelling about the concept that allowed the movie to be made or B) somebody in the production did something right. Bad movies can have great editing or special effects, or just an amazing actor chewing the scenery.
