Of all the people I could think of where I would say "fark off, the man has earned enough respect not to be shat on", Clint Eastwood is near the top of that list.

So go fark yourself modminsubby.

Clint Eastwood has reached a point in human awesomeness whereby he can say and support whomever and whatever he damn well pleases. Guy could probably eat live babies on TV while fellating Lyndon LaRouche and I'd just chalk it up to "Philo Beddo Privilege."

Listen, subby. To me you're nothin' but dogshiat, you understand? And a lot of things can happen to dogshiat. It can be scraped up with a shovel off the ground. It can dry up and blow away in the wind. Or it can be stepped on and squashed. So take my advice and be careful where the dog shiats ya!

Clint is awesome at everything. He's the last remaining Republican I like.

Right now I think he's just being awesome at trolling everyone.

And all conservatives think that liberals are brainwashed evil servants of a socialist agenda.

Here's an idea, you don't have to enjoy a man's politics to enjoy the movies he makes, example: Mel Gibson.

Excellent!

I have a lot of respect for Eastwood. I'd even vote for him as a Senator..., until now. It's sad when your mind starts to slip from old age. (He'd still be better than McCain. His mind slipped over a decade ago.)

Clint Eastwood served a peach martini to me, and a cucumber sandwich to my mom. He's taller than you expect. I'm not sure either thing is worthy of respect. I did leave a good tip, though.

It was an allusion to a popular film, however, "Peach Martini" would be a great porn name.

"I love Cain's story," Eastwood tells the Times. "He's a guy who came from nowhere and did well, obviously against heavy odds. He's a doer and a straight-talker, which I don't see enough of from either party."

I feel exactly the same was about Cain as Eastwood does. Cain has a great story.

He's a terrible candidate and would make a terrible president, but he has a great story.

2011-11-09 01:48:24 AM
Of course he likes Cain. What else does he have to pick from in the lineup? At least Cain has done something besides suck the government tit dry.

For what playing characters in movies?

The GOP fully shat all over John Kerry and he actually did brave shiat in a real war.

2011-11-09 01:58:05 AM
Idiot libs will annoint a "community organizer" with zero previous executive experience as our new President, because he has charisma, yet refrain from acknowledging Eastwood as a World Leader for decades, solely because his pragmatism does not fit your agenda! Eastwood is smarter than you, tougher than you, more intimidating than you, cooler than you, richer than you, and most definitely more popular than you. He still scores more chicks than you, and you covet that which you can't comprehend. He understands thugs and miscreants, he understands the difference between good and evil, and if he were on your side you would embrace him like no other. Yet, because he DOES understand you and your misguided idealogy, you are compelled to disparage him. You are feeble and jealous, you con't make a positive contribution to this country, and that is why you are not welcome on his lawn.

Eh, the woman I work with in the mornings, in her late 20's, seems to like Cain. She's also just starting to pay attention to politics for the first time. So, not senility, but obliviousness?

EVERY part. Speaking of parts, Kerry has never played a part (role) in a movie, other than a feeble cameo. He never had a clue about how to invigorate the American Spirit, whereas that is second nature for Eastwood. The best role envisioned for Kerry would be in the Three Stooges, joining Chris Dodd and Barney Frank.

And orangutangs. Orangutans that kick ass and destroy cars. And strong female characters like "Lynn Halsey-Taylor (new window)" who are named after commercial water fountain companies (new window). You can't troll audiences better than that.

ertznay: It doesn't matter who you are, if you endorse Cain, you are off your rocker.

Not exactly. Well, not on the same level as supporting Bachmann, Santorum or Perry, certainly. Sure, Cain is clueless about foreign policy, his tax plan stinks, he's up to his ears in sexual harassment claims and he's terrible at communicating any message that don't involve 3 digits (he's like Guliani in that respect), but he is, at least, somewhat sane, unlike most of the GOP candidates. and that puts him a select group. He's also a buinessman, which, to a certain brand of republican, makes him god-like, and isn't a Mormon, which is a big thing for some of them too. So, while I don't think his selection is very good, I don't think he's off his rocker as I might if he endorsed one of the actually crazy candidates.

/Funny thing is I clicked on the link thinking "just not Bachmann, Santorum or Perry"

Eastwood likes Cain because Cain's a sincere, "straight-talker." If that's the only criteria that matters to you, then sure, Cain is a far better candidate than Romney, who has adopted the ever shifting, slimy, quintessential political pragmatist persona. But if you at all value a leader who has a more sophisticated outlook than a person who's only exposure to politics is the AM radio on his daily commute, then pick anybody, anybody but Cain.

By my count, I'd rate the "honest" Republican candidates as Cain, Huntsman, Santorum, and Paul. They seem the most closely associated with their sincerely held beliefs, even if some are crazier than others. I'd call Perry, Bachmann, Gingrich, and Romney the say-anything-to-get-elected Republicans, even if some pander to different and more extreme subsets of the Republican base.

If that breakdown holds true, I think the best takeaway from it is that there is an extraordinarily poor correlation between candidate honesty and candidate quality. Maybe it would be better for voters to look past the rhetoric, honest or BS, and try to imagine how well these people might actually govern. Maybe voters are doing that already, and that's why so many are willing to hold their nose and vote for Romney.

I don't mind a little womanizing (and we don't know the extent of things, so I won't judge yet), I can at least understand the sentiment behind most of what he has to say. I can forgive the businessman/demi-god bit as not personal opinion but rather just political grandstanding, which I expect.

Foreign policy is a big deal, but you CAN be brought up to speed on the facts.

The 999 plan though? Regressive + done so in a way that discourages spending and shrinks the economy, plus it is probably revenue negative.

W
T
F

Also, am I the only one whose had conversations with ignorant coworkers and tried to explain just how bad the concept of a national sales tax is, watched the person's eyes glaze over, and then have them reaffirm their support for the man and mutter some platitude about how they think everyone should pay their fair share (whatever the fark that means)?

At least with trickle down there was a theory, one in which I can see how someone could believe it might work. There isn't even a cover-story with the 999 plan. Its like republicans stopped bothering with voodooing up the economics after realizing how people who like republicans would accept anything they told them.

"I like that Cain guy"
"what about him?"
"he's got fresh ideas, we need fresh ideas, and he's a businessman. He built a pizza business from the ground up"
"Oh, well, (facts about the business) and also, his fresh idea is to burn the economy to the ground"
"that sounds bad, but everyone's economy should burn equally, skin in the game and all that".

/facepalm.

According to Wiki Eastwood endorsed McCain whom he's known since 1973.

At least last time he endorsed the guy who actually got the nom nod.

This time not so much.

Just watched him on the Daily Show. He sat stiffly and barely responded to anything Jon Stewart said. Maybe he was trying for the tough-guy look, but he just seemed like nothing much was going on upstairs anymore. It made me wonder how involved in directing he really was.

Clint, I don't like any of your opinions but you're still one of my favorite actors. I won't abandon my fandom based on personal politics. Please explain this to your Dixie Chick-bashing friends.
