Am I the only person that never found Absolutely Fabulous to be particularly funny? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy British comedy, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Are You Being Served, etc...but I never found AbFab to be amusing.

yes

Considering that she ran out of ideas about 7 series ago, how about no?

Teufelaffe: but I never found AbFab to be amusing.

By and large women aren't funny, they're merely sex objects.

/Well, except that Margaret Cho, she is a scream!

For some reason all I can think of is "Heart of Goldschlager"

was she the fat hogish one, or the vaguely attractive skeletral blonde? or the youngish, gamine office assistant that i wanted to do very bad things to with the damn near unintelligible cockney accent?

Her husband Ade Edmondson is hilarious.

The first season or 2 were pretty good, but it got very, very stale. And Julia Sawalha has growed up real nice.

nope, i can't stand abfab and love love love British comedy. i think its because i can't do shows where the main characters have no redeeming characteristics. it the same reason i love the plots for Seinfeld episodes but i can't watch them because i hate the main four. how can you identify with sociopaths?

Exactly. I watched a few episodes of AbFab, and it seemed like the "humour" was limited to:

Edina and Patsy are drunk and/or stoned! Isn't that FUNNY!?
or
Edina is drunk and/or stoned and verbally abusing her daughter! Isn't that FUNNY!?
or
Patsy is drunk and/or stoned AND a slut! Isn't that FUNNY!?

She rushed by "real nice" and went on to corpulent, unfortunately.

Nope.

Drunk, botoxed, and stupid is no way to go through life.

It's been ten years. The movie starts out with Eddy and Patsy waking up hungover on an empty yacht. I have hopes for this movie, Jennifer. Don't let me down.

/only have DVD sets of two TV shows--AbFab and due South
//no need for more

I found them funny because I knew people who were like that.

But, the show is played out already.
I actually find Dawn French's individual work to hold up better. Probably because it's not as topical and or caustic.

Here's a great example of French and Saunders (new window).

She was in the Young Ones episode "Interesting". She plays the student at the party who gets a tampon pulled out of her handbag by Rick.

"oh look, a little telescope! And it's got a mouse inside!"

And Jane delivered the single funniest word ever spoken in the history of television on that show.

The first series or so was very good. However, it started getting stale about midway through the second series, although it had it's moments. I stopped watching when I start feeling really sorry for Saffron.

VERY METAL.

I lurved Ab Fab. But perhaps I'm only used to it in small doses? Who knows.

I loved the episode where Saffy shows the kid how to roll a joint.

No.
Because it wasn't funny.

I haven't followed the show through every stage, just caught random episodes from different seasons here and there, but every episode I've ever watched I've enjoyed quite a bit. Patsy & Edina are just solid and fun-to-watch characters.

Awesome.

Never could understand why I didn't find the show particularly funny until recently; Evidently it's satire, but of a group of people that I don't really know anything about.

I have the same problem with Kath and Kim in Australia. I don't really know very much about the people they are satirizing (sp??)... um.. making fun of.

I guess it'd be like watching Colbert Report and not knowing what a Republican was.

I never really got the point of AbFab, but I did like French and Saunders. She been in some funny stuff, and she's also a pretty fair driver, see her Top Gear performance.

Lurve me some Britcoms.

Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Ripping Yarns, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, Are you Being Served, French and Saunders and yes, AbFab as well. Early seasons are better than the later w/ AF but when isn't that the case?

Man About the House > Three's Company.

Sanford and Son > Steptoe and Son.

"Is it true you knew the Who?"
"Well I woke up once under Keith Moon."

I find that particularly funny.
