I don't mean to rain on subby's parade, but Construction Science and Management (new window) is an actual major.

Not saying this guy really exists, but the degree does.

Ugh I remember working for a start up company, and we were in a meeting with a massive Security Company talking about an electronic lock system we were designing, and our president tells their CEO we have a guy with a Masters degree in Wiegand to impress him. Which is a communications protocol.

It makes me wonder how common this phenomenon of ghost-writing news stories is... It has the potential to really fark things up.

Yeah, but not at the school that the "writer" purportedly obtained it from.

In other news, veteran Journalist and degree-holder in Propane Technology from The Madagascar Institute in Brooklyn, NY, CheekyMonkey has written extensively on the fraudulent journalism controversy surrounding the Central Basin Water Management District.

Every Public Relation firm has at least 3 people doing just this for every available news outlet, the days of the beat reporter are long gone.

Now a reporter fields calls for pitches from a PR firm, usually with nice quotes and background data tied together with a pink bow..

Sounds like we work at the same place, I make it a point never to go to meetings with one of our VP's he just blurts out stuff to make it sound like he knows something and it's so embarrassing. Sometimes you get the sympathy nod from the other side.

Computer Science can be a real science although the name in those cases is a bit misleading (In Europe it is perhaps more aptly named Informatics). what else would you call someone who does things like AI research? However calling a simple coder or admin a computer scientist stretches the term a lot.

This kind of crap happens all the time.

I knew a guy who created a "spokesperson" persona who would shill for the highrise building boom in Las Vegas during the mid 2000s. His "quotes" were published in articles in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, real estate publications, and even Boston.com a couple of times. It was all sort of a joke to him, just to see how far he could push it. He also had financial interests in this particular market, so he was using the persona to manipulate the message.

Yes, because any swinging d*ck off the street can just go and run a construction project.

HA! I just googled the persona name and google returns 189 results. Many of those articles are still there. Wow...

I think the real story here is that they paid a consultant almost $200k for what sounds like $30k worth of work.

Construction science is pretty intense though
They need to make a better title

I vote for "Builder of incredible stuff"
otherwise they might get confused with Minnesotan bridge builders

Sorry.

What's wrong with having pen names? Mine are Stew Wellington, Hanz Kitchup, and Colleen Flower. Editor in chief Frank Fertor has 20+ years of professional writing experience. He's extremely talented at taking many bits of information from different sources and joining them together to make a pleasing finished product. Studied for years in Hamburg, but decided it wasn't the place for him, so now he calls Johnsonville, South Carolina his home.
