No complaints in Chicago this week. The Bears are right about where they should be after a solid win last night. Defense played well, Forte's fumbles were an aberration, and the O-line played its best game of the year.

Next week against the Lions will be big, but I'm cautiously optimistic about the Bears chances at home, given how they've been playing since that debacle in Detroit.

Not a fan of either team, but how are the Eagles behind the Cowboys after they mauled them less than 10 days ago. Because the Cowboys beat (according to these rankings) the 28th ranked team in the NFL while the Eagles lost close to the 9th ranked team? Just another reason why these rankings are stupid.

What is with this love affair with the Saints? They're not better than the Steelers, Giants, Lions, or Bengals.

Because:

1. Eagles are 3-5, Cowboys are 4-4.
B. Eagles lost this week, Cowboys won this week.

We'll see about the Giants and Lions in upcoming games, the Steelers would be an interesting game, and as far as the Bengals go...yeah, okay. Bring 'em down to the Dome, we'll see what happens.

This week should clear up a lot of questions at the top. We have good divisional match-ups that will depict who's on top of a lot of races.

Good games this week:
Oak/SD - Which team wants to lose the AFC West less?
NO/Atl - Atlanta seems to have figured out how to win, they can take the division lead with a win.
Cinn/Pitts - A win here and Cincinnati will have the solidified their lead (at least until next week against Baltimore)
Den/KC - Which team wants to troll the AFC West more?
Det/Chi - The Wildcard race starts with this game.
SF/NYG - Giants want to silence the naysayers and SF wants to clinch the division.
NE/NYJ - Jets can take the division lead back and push New England firmly into a downward spiral. New England wants to prove it's still the team to beat in the AFC East.

Only way this week could be better is if MNF wasn't on a bye.

Playing (and winning) @ the 5-0 Lions wasn't a true test?

But yeah, I'm worried about this one. I wouldn't be surprised (or that upset) if we lost.

Well, it IS rare that you see a team behind another to whom they fed a fortyburger. As for the Lions, like I said to Apples, we'll see December 4 in the Dome.

Guidette Frankentits: True test for Niners this week

Should be an excellent game with two teams who match up very well with each other. It'll be a great test for both teams, and I'm very much looking forward to it. After Sunday, the Packers don't have a single opponent for the rest of the season that is currently below .500, the Niners still have the Ravens and Steelers to deal with, and NYG are now entering Week 2 of a brutal five game stretch. The bye-week seeds are still very much up for grabs.

Go Niners!

It's halfway through the season. They're not playing for the division lead, not the division.

A lot of people haven't seen SF play, and it's just a better game overall.

Nawwww. The Giants are looking ahead to 11/20, hosting Arizona. This has all the makings of a trap game. Trap game. What are you gonna do? Trap game.

And the Steelers only lost Sunday because they were looking ahead to Sunday's Bengals matchup. Trap game. What are you gonna do? Trap game.

/I forget the guy, but yesterday Jim Rome had some lineman on the show, Packers, think, and at one point i think i heard him say, "there are no trap games in the NFL, you have 7 days to focus on your opponent". I almost wept in validation.

Pretty much this. The niner's offense needs to get its shiat together.

2011-11-08 01:19:31 PM
The Niners have easily the EASIEST stretch remaining. They've got basically 5 sure wins in their 2 remaining games each against the Rams/Cards and one against Seattle.

If not for the games against the Giants, Ravens and Steelers, i'd say they'd be the choice for the #1 seed overall. GB has the Giants as well, but Detroit is looking good and I have a feeling Chicago will be a problem too. could be close. SF definitely has the advantage of playing in an extremely weak division (again). The NFC West is just pathetic year in and year out, though the shiattyness tends to move around a bit.

robsul82: We'll see about the Giants and Lions in upcoming games

No way the Saints don't beat the Giants. Week off, Superdome on a Monday night? The Giants are good, but they're walking into a buzzsaw that week, particularly considering that they're playing the Eagles on Sunday night the week before with a chance to end their season.

"The Vikings' record on the field doesn't matter. Getting a new stadium does. (Clayton)"

Really? The Vikings record on the field doesn't matter? They seemed to do just fine in that stadium two years ago. Is this some sort of veiled reference to "If they do badly then the city won't give them a new stadium and they'll move to LA?" Because they won't.

I almost used a "trap game" headline after reading the commentary on Green Bay. "Green Bay isn't playing a real game until Thanksgiving @ Detroit" (paraphrased)

I'm thinking, "they have a divisional match-up on MNF against a team they more or less hate, you think that won't be a tough game?"

Branch has been effective at times this year, but I'm talking about a guy that can open up things in the middle for Brady since that's where he throws the ball the majority of the time. Seriously, teams are stacking the middle (don't want to say stacking the box, since it's not about preventing the run) and keeping Welker and Gronk covered, resulting in turnovers.

Branch is averaging around 50yds a game, Chad is at around 15. Basically they need a deep threat. Maybe it's Price, but if he doesn't get any playing time no one will know. And since Chad could be effectively covered by a tackling dummy at this point, I say let Price have his shot.

Guidette Frankentits: Pretty much this. The niner's offense needs to get its shiat together.

It's as good as its going to get. The Niners are a running team because Alex Smith is not accurate more than 5 yards downfield. I'd like to see more screens to Kendall Hunter and Delanie Walker while the defense is focusing on Gore and Davis, but outside of that, what more could you put in the playbook? Edwards and Crabtree can get open, but Smith can't get it to them. This is why we've had 3 passes in the last two weeks go to offensive linemen and backup fullbacks.

On the plus side, however, the defense is becoming an absolute monster.

pretty sure the question Rome asked was, "is the locker room thinknig about going 16-0?" the guy laughed and at some point in his answer, said, to paraphrase ,"you don't have time to look ahead, there are no trap games, every week you have a new opponent....."

The Giants have that "play to the level of your opponent" thing down to a science it seems like.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints win, but it should be a close game just because of that.

That's the problem isn't it? They only get to play half the games there. The saints are still a very good home team for sure but I for one am not convinced they are a 'very good' road team. If they don't beat atl in atl that 2-4 road record won't bode well for the playoffs.

in the games i've seen, their front pressure is amazing. they were bringing 4 against Washington Sunday, and were 3-4 yards in the backfield. not sure if that's more an indictment of wash's line, but....even in other games i've seen. 49ers defense is tough.

I said in the monster Sunday thread that they're given up the fewest points all season. the 49ers! amazing.

Pittsburgh might be the highest power-ranked team to miss the playoffs (Nipples)

Barring a total implosion by the Ravens Pittsburgh now has to get in on record. If they're going to do that they can only lose one, maybe two more games all season and they have yet to play the Bengals and Niners. Next week is by far the biggest game of the Steelers' season, because if they can't beat the Bengals and fall a game behind them they are in deep, deep trouble.

It's amazing what a difference a week can make, isn't it? Had they beaten Baltimore they'd be 1st in the conference. Now they're playing for their playoff lives.

Look at the injuries caused by SF's front. They basically destroy any RB (or Romo) that tries to power through them.
