I'm having too much fun with Battlefield 3 right now. Plus I've played less and less of each subsequent CoD release since CoD4.

I guess I should add... I can see fans of the series getting excited about another edition of their game but people lining up and skipping work for a FPS release?

It should be fairly obvious at this point that most people don't know what a good game is. However, I am also perplexed at the lengths people go to in order to buy such half-baked games.

PCGamer has delayed their review because "we were sent a copy for the 360 and had to go buy our own copy at midnight." That should tell you something right there.

Eagerly awaited? By who? The CoD franchise sucks and has for a looong time. If it didn't suck so bad, why would they spend eleventy billion dollars on advertising? I've barely been able to open my eyes without seeing a CoD commercial lately, desperate trying to convince me that the game is cool and I want it. Never mind the glaring red flag that is the fact that NONE of their promotional material shows any actual game play. The most you can hope fore is 5 seconds of cut scene.

Battlefield 3 isn't bad so far. It typically has a smaller population playing, though. Jackasses are still around, but they're not shouting the n-word in your ear every 3 seconds.

You have to understand what the word "tard" means in video game context. Call of Duty games are "filled with tards" if you are not in the specific 'tard demographic of 13-26 year old unemployed males.

In order to find a game that's not "filled with tards" you need to find a game where YOU are the tard. It's all relative.

And I cannot decide what to do with Skyrim. I doubt my laptop will handle Skyrim to my satisfaction, but I don't want to go console and forgo the sweet, sweet mods that are sure to follow. Plus it will look like ass on the console too.

I just have a hard time justifying buying a $1500 laptop to play a video game....

Well, other games have used the same engine over and over (see anything Valve has made since 2004... or arguably 1998), but the storylines and attention to detail make those other games worth the $50 you might pay. You're not getting Fallout 3: Part 2 when you buy Fallout: New Vegas, for example. Completely different characters, personalities, challenges, etc. On CoD, though, it just doesn't seem different enough to warrant the price. It's the same storyline we've seen in games since the early 90s... "new" democratic Russian government goes under, ultranationalist communists take over, vow revenge on the West. Hell, the flight sim USAF had that as an available storyline, and I played it on my Windows 98 machine in 2001. It'd be different if Activision at least tried to come up with a modern warfare scenario that was more original, but they won't. It's the equivalent of the romantic comedy film.

It saddens me that MW3 will likely outsell Battlefield 3, Saints Row 3, Batman AC and Skyrim combined.

A big resounding 'meh' of a franchise unless you enjoy getting berated by 10-year-olds in the multiplayer. Activision as a publisher since the success of the original Modern Warfare has gone the Madden route for this series, releasing one nearly every year since. A friend of mine worked at Raven, and his entire dev team got pulled off of their title and forced onto Black Ops, and then when finished a good chunk of Raven's work force was laid off.

CoD's single player campaign never changes. You and a bunch of AI teammates have an objective to meet. You see the waypoints on your hud. When there are enemies in the way, they are endlessly respawning and your AI teammates will sit there and not move forward until you hit a trigger that causes them to move up, but always behind you. When there are NO enemies in the way, your AI teammates throw caution to the wind IN A WAR ZONE and go balls out sprinting towards the next objective while you henpeck the enemies for ammo because unlike your teammates, you don't have infinite.

This leads to a constant yo-yo effect of you always trying to play catch up with your teammates. Once you finally do catch up you are going to take point breaching a room, only to be forced into a cutscene where you get knocked down without any chance of getting out of it, and you get to WATCH your AI companion do the cool shiat and take out the baddy in hand to hand. An AI friend saves you from slipping on a frozen slope, an AI friend tackles the guy you're chasing out of a window onto a parked car, an AI friend takes out a submarine. You are always playing second fiddle to your AI friends. You're never, except under very rare circumstances, the Big Damn Hero.

I made the mistake of getting MW2, then again with Black Ops. I'll never buy another CoD. The artists and engineers do amazing work on the games. Beautiful and run wonderfully. The core design is absolute ass. Wait for Skyrim, enjoy probably 10X the gameplay in an equally beautiful world.

I bought a Hardened Edition of MW3.

While BF3 is a good to great game, there's a certain satisfaction I get out of the CoD series that I don't from the BF series.

lilbordr: I was a big fan/player of MWF2 for XB360. I recently build a gaming PC and has since switch to BF3 which is pretty much a superior product. What really put me over the edge was the whole MWF3 'Elite' subscription where one would have to shell out and additional $50/yr just to keep track of one's stats. BF3 has that function built in at no additional cost. Another reason I'm satisfied with the switch from XB360 to PC for online gaming is that there aren't as many 10 year olds screaming every racial epithet know to mankind at me.

No you don't. Elite is a free service. If you pay the premium you get access to tournaments for prizes, all of the DLC that is released in that period, and a few other things.
