No. You just weren't brown enough.

I was hired one year at UPS as an unloader during the Christmas rush. Their standard was to unload one trailer by yourself in one hour. I couldn't consistently empty every trailer in under an hour so I never got called back after Christmas, although I knew a few people who did get job offers. I'm not sure I would have taken it anyways as that was some pretty hard work.

Also, just to try and create some trouble: I was a temp worker who was not a member of the union, got no union benefits, but they still took union dues from me.

The sign in the package center said, "If you get hurt, safety isn't working."

/I was all, "wtf?"
//Drivers are union, package handlers are non-union.
///Got paid for four hours of orientation class, has union dues taken from my tiny check.

The opening scene to the first Ace Ventura movie still cracks me up.

It's even in their advertising. What can brown do for you?

Worked at UPS for 3 months, but left right before Christmas, because, well forget that.
Supervisors got on us if we didn't load three hundred boxes an hour (all ranging in size and weight, which meant some days you'd have a load of heavy chairs, and they still expected the same rate).

They pay well, I was at $11 an hour after a month of working there (started at $9), but the hours and level of stupidity of my co-workers became unbearable.

And yeah, they did take union dues from me, even though I wasn't a member.

The trick is to grab the bottom box, direct the stack that's falling down behind it onto the roller and push. It also helps if you have utter disregard for the contents of those boxes.

Also make sure the driver jacked the trailer up...if he didn't go out and do it yourself. Takes five minutes but will shave 20 off your time.

/did that job for two years running

I did not know that the actually hired local people. I thought they were entirely staffed by foreigners in whose language "fragile" means "kick me".

Which one of you stole the laptop I ordered?

Tracking website had status "out for delivery" for 4 days before I could convince them it wasn't on the truck.

I work for a company that is UPS's best corporate customer in Battle Creek, MI, and I have seen the results of UPS handling packages when we get the damaged packages returned. UPS one time *demolished* a $1289 plasma TV (not counting the shipping cost), and I was the one that got to tell the boss when I saw it come in. Package smashers is an accurate description.

My son who has CJ degree and of course can't find work, just got called for a job there, At a whopping $8.50 an hour. he was at orientation they explained the unloading of the trucks etc. etc. They then explained the union dues. even though it was a temp job. He stopped the person giving the presentation and said so you expect me to kill myself for $8.50 an hour with the possibility of getting a permanent job, but no guarantees AND you'll be taking union dues out of my pay?? He told them to go pound sand and walked out. He has a temp job doing the same thing and makes $15 an hour and does not pay union dues so he'll stick with that.

Unreall the whole union dues thing really killed me, for a farking temp job really....
