As a subscriber, I can say that Sirius programing blows. The stations were amazing for about 4 months, then they became very repetitive. When Stern leaves, I am cancelling.

Aren't both Forbes and the other guy saying to buy? The price right now is $1.73, and Forbes is saying it should be $2.11.

So keep tuning in for the great sampling of the broad range of acoustic performances that we have in our vast library!! YEAH!

/If you call to cancel, they'll give you six months for $20. GREAT business model.

And go back to regular radio? Hell noes. I've have xm since '03, I gave up cable without thinking twice, but my xm is staying with me as long as it exists.

Outside of the pop stations, which, by design are repetitive, the playlists are much bigger than on regular radio. Not as great since the merger, but still pretty good.

Plus it has Ron and Fez. They are worth the price by themselves

This, except for whoever Ron and Fez are. Plus, the stations I listen to (Boneyard & Outlaw Country especially) would be impossible for me to find on terrestrial radio. While our local rock station is good, it's still a terrestrial station that plays maybe eight songs an hour during morning rush and doesn't get a chance to go as deep as satellite does. And I won't even tell you how bad our "Southern pop" station is (I don't care if "Country" is in their name, they play farking Taylor Swift).

And besides, it's a million times easier to just tune into what you know you want to listen to on long road trips instead of playing "find the signal" up and down the East Coast.

\though I do want to punch Dan Neer any time I turn to Classic Vinyl, he is horrible

I've had SiriusXM in my Equinox since it was still Sirius and XM. If you lived in Wichita, you wouldn't judge me; it's a red-letter day around here when one of the radio stations plays something from U2.

Recently bought a minivan that of course had SiriusXM radio in it with a 3 month trial, and I was looking into whether I could just add it on my existing subscription for an extra $5/month or whatever. I go try to do this online, put in the radio ID, and before I know it I've created a new account and the damn thing wants to bill me for a separate subscription. I try to find the online chat with a rep, and they do have one: From 8-5 Monday through Friday. Convenient!

So like a Neanderthal I pick up the phone and call them. Gal on the line tells me that I can get my second car on for free! (which I know is a lie, it's going to be like an extra $9 a month or something for a second radio), but advises me that I shouldn't do this until my 3 free months have expired.

Good plan there, SiriusXM. Actively discourage people from giving you money for three months. Oh, and they've been merged how long? And it's still Sirius and XM; if you have different radios you can't mix them on your account. And they're still pitching that "Best of Sirius/Best of XM" stuff, where if you have one radio they expect you to pay extra for content specific to the other. But hey, they've got new radios/service that let you re-listen to songs you just heard. Wow.

Is anyone in charge of that damn company? Like I say, I want to keep paying for this service, because Wichita radio is that bad, but when I see crap like this I see a company that doesn't have a fracking clue what they're doing.

exparrot: /If you call to cancel, they'll give you six months for $20. GREAT business model.

actually it is 6 monthws for 43.05 plus local taxes (which does include the music royalty fee) or five months for 27.69, they also have a yr/ 85.32. now you can always repeat the yr/half and 6mo/half, but the 5/27.69 is a one time only promotion after which they'll try to upsell you to the 6mo/half. there is a 5/20 which is only valid as a winback offer after you have cancelled your service previously or if your car had a free trial that you let expire without setting up a follow on plan.

all this is moot as they are jacking up the prices effictive jan 1 2012 which is the earliest they could do so according to the terms of the sirius xm merger.

/why yes, i did use to work in retention for the company.

NEVER give them a credit card EVER. when you call in to cancel, depending on if you get someone in the phillipines or egypt, they may tell you your radio has been cancelled but it hasnt.... that would hurt their saves rate which their commision is dependant on. or they might offer you an additional portable radio for 20 bucks (or sometimes free) and then not farking tell you that it comes activated as a second subnscription and your card is going to be charged an additional 15 dollar activation fee, 30 dollars for a quartlery subscription, has a 75 dollar early terminationj fee if you want to cancel within the first year and that once you find this out you cant get the radio cancelled until you get an RMA number... fark, the whole company is run by monkeys.

and or course they auto renew until you call in to cancel, which is made as goddamn hard as possible (cant do it online like netflix)

and right now if you have a car on trial, as it approaches the end of the trial, even if you never set up a follow on plan, they will send you a postcard stating that your account will renew unless you call in to cancel, which is just a trick to get you to call them, so they can try to sell you on a new subscription.

/hate hate hate siriusxm, feel sorry for everyone who has to deal with that company in any way shape or form

jayhawk88: recountng how sirius xm sucks

I'm sorry.... I'm just so sorry.

/its just a horrible company. it could be good; completely consolidate, ditch plug and play radios and do exclusively built in radios in vehicles (OEM) ten bucks a month for premier or 9 for family friendly, and make canceling available online. and BAM, you have a company that doesnt dick its customers at every opportunity and makes canceling as easy as signing up (which is one of the best things about the netflix model) because I know how hard it will be to cnacel, i will never be a subscriber and i encourage everyone i know to avoid them.

great business model guys.

i could go on forever, but i won't

.....oh, also i am getting a kick out of these replies.

Agreed. I've also been with XM since 2003, and the thought of going back to commercial radio is a non-starter. That said, I've still not forgiven them for the shiat they pulled during the merger. XM fans got completely screwed in that fiasco, and the playlists today are not nearly as expansive as they were under XM. We lost some great stations, too - I really miss Lucy (although Lithium does a reasonably good job), Fine Tuning and Beyond Jazz.

Got XM around 2003 and loved it until they merged with Sirius. XM proved how great it COULD be and Sirius shows how bad it is. Once I actually got them to cancel my various accounts I have not looked back and actually enjoy the alternatives even more.

I still listen to Stern & Jason Ellis and Pete Dominick on POTUS make Sirius worth the subscription. But I'm now also subscribing to RadioIO to download Bubba the Love Sponge. Miss him being on Sirius.

You sound like every shiat CBS and Clear Channel station in existence.

Stern killed satellite radio-

He drove people to the inferior company that had crappy hardware, a poor signal and shallow playlists. XM farked up by not countering the initial Sirius campaign properly. When a good amount of Sirius subscribers paid for their service and discovered a) their units were pieces of shiat that constantly lost their signal, b) they still had to hear the same songs over and over and c) Stern on satrad was no more compelling than he was on terrestrial, most said "meh" and satrad lost it's lustre. It had such a great potential and for the most part XM was doing it right. Now we have the worst of why Sirius sucks- shallow playlist and poorer sound quality due to restricting the bandwith to make room for as many channels as possible. I still won't cancel, but I really miss the XM I had before the merger.

Just the word "coffeehouse" keeps me away. Try the Underground Garage where wimpiness is banned. Been with Sirius since 2006 and couldn't tell you what is on the sucky local stations anymore. Drive quite a good bit to see clients and I have these vague memories of dead zones between cities and having to change the channel every hundred miles manually because no radio has that many presets. Many a night sail has had Spa or Margaritaville serenading the crew. New Orleans oldest Rock station became Rush Radio sometime back (not the Candian Trio, either). Every station in the morning has some idiots just yapping away like the people on Facebook you've already ignored. Emo pretty much chased me away from New Music. Sirius at least gives me choices. I can pick some station that will either match my mood or help me get out of a bad one most anyime.

Had for 5-6 years (Started with XM), cancelled a couple days ago. It's become paid FM radio. Same "hits" played over and over, wacky DJ's and too much talking, talking over music, music played over music, etc.

It was a good run.
