Shenanigans. Blatant viral advertising for the video game. I bet when they bring up the wreckage, they'll find a locked chest containing the platinum edition.

Yeah, we're runnin' before a gale tonight
I can barely see the sea from the foam comin' off
know what I'm sayin'
uhh, I reach down between my legs n' ease the wheel to port*

She's runnin', flags flyin'
Right behind in the starboard quarter now
Got the fearin', tiller steerin'
Topgallant's poppin', ain't no stoppin' now

Meh, I don't know... Played through the single player in 8 and a half hours, and I wasn't rushing. Don't get me wrong, it was a good 8 hours, but the notebook puzzles seemed thrown in randomly (there was what, one in the second half, and like 4 in the first half?), and it was a bit short overall. Also, the difficulty jumped around randomly... easy, easy, easy, three snipers/two rocket launchers/three armored shotgun guys all at once?

The reviews all point to the multiplayer being the real part of the game, but frankly, I'm not that interested in multiplayer. Returning it next week, and picking up the next Assassin's Creed.

I'd start with 2... Don't need 1 to pick up where the story left off. But don't dive right into Brotherhood, or it won't make much sense.

Uncharted is great, but AC is great and different. I'd say that each individual release of Uncharted is better, but AC is greater than the sum of its parts, and the multiplayer is just so different (sort of a reverse Turing test).

Unlike most people, though, the first game is still my favorite; it's much less linear, and you get to know your targets quite well before you lay them to rest. AC2 and ACB (and presumably ACR) all play much better, but I would like it if they gave me more liberty in how I want to do things. Some targets, for example, can't be stealth assassinated in AC2 and ACB, but all save the final bosses in AC1 can be.

Haven't tried AC, sounds like I should considering the good comparisons to Uncharted (picking up my Collector's Edition of 3 tonight).

But if we're going to talk about the best series for the current generation of consoles, we'd be remiss to not mention/consider the Mass Effect series.

Not for a game so short that you can beat it in 10 hours.

They'll probably give it to Skyrimj0b or Dark Souls.

Eh... Like most BioWare games, Mass Effect suffered from a giant universe that consisted of three planets copy-pasted all over the place. Not bad, but 8/10.
The ideas were great, particularly the combination of shooter plus powers, but the execution was only meh. Plus, the super-linear levels got a bit boring for an allegedly sandboxy game.

Yep. One was too repetitive. Reveal all of the look out points, rescue all of the harassed townsfolk, do the story missions, rinse, repeat.

The more you read about Sir Francis Drake, the more interesting this guy is. Not a goody-two-shoes Errol Flynn type guy; schooled more or less by pirates, he ran slaves for a time, and plenty of contraband. His circumnavigation was forced on him, it was the only way to elude the "cops" on his tail. Drake was much more badass than Jack Sparrow. But what I admire about him was his strategic thinking: By ruining the ship repair facilities and supplies at Cadiz, he crippled the Armada's ability to do maintenance and repair on their ships, so by the time the Armada met Drake's fleet, the Spaniard's ships were falling apart in many cases and not able to fight at full efficiency. He won the sea battle, on land.

2011-11-09 01:01:28 AM
Yeah, that's nothing. He should see these dudes on the discovery channel that catch crab all the time ... They never crash thier ships on purpose.
