It's not soy milk. It's soy juice.

This stuff is better than actual chocolate milk. It is somehow richer and creamier.

It's made from monkey cum you know.

Why on earth would I want to waste time making soy milk?

I got your nutmilk bag right here.

2011-11-08 12:42:07 AM
What's the problem here? Making your own soy milk is easy and cheap and the stuff's reasonably good for you. I only drink and bake with water, but I can't see the problem with people making their own soy milk.

Besides, if you want to talk about grossness, how the hell is this less gross than sucking down the secretions of a member of a different species? Baby cow or GTFO.

2011-11-08 12:42:09 AM
ummm...its only something that 1.3 billion people in China do every day. (well mum does it anyway - the rest drink it.) Can't buy cow's milk in China.

That's the thing - I like soy milk as a dessert but I can't stand it on a daily basis.

I also don't see it being worth the effort to make your own, but f--k, I make my own bread on a regular clip and other people would say the same thing. To each their own.

Hence the reason why Chinese are still undernourished and stunted growth...soy milk has about 0.005% of the calcium of real milk. Doesn't help that they're also lactose intolerant to begin with either.

If you hate almonds you'll hate almond milk. If you like almonds you'll like almond milk. If one of these statements isn't true for you, odds are you're doing something wrong. Homemade almond milk is just almonds and water. Seriously, it's 100% almonds and water. The stuff you buy in stores tends to have more junk in it, but most of that's typically going to be sugar. Sugar certainly won't make it taste worse to many people.

fail. it's more genetics than anything.

i drank this stuff as a kid. i also drank plenty of cow milk. lactose intolerance isn't any more common in chinese kids as it is in white kids, going by everyone i know. And given the number of first-gen chinese children in north america who aren't ridiculously taller than their parents, but still eat a fairly north american diet... uh, yeah.

Man, I'd forgotten how utterly ridiculous the ignorance can get up here. Educate yourself homeskillet. This shiat you have just spewed is weapons grade derp.

1: Your knowledge of the Chinese is laughable.
2. You know that calcium in your cow milk? That shiat's fortified, just like soy milk. Cows aren't getting a lot of calcium from all that grain they're being fed.
3. Yeah, Chinese people tend to be lactose intolerant, but they're not lactose intolerant "to begin with." Lactose intolerance is what happens to humans when they stop drinking milk after infancy. It's completely normal. Drinking milk like a farking baby when you're fifty years old is what's unusual.

You trollin'.

Anyway, populations that drink milk have much higher levels of osteoporosis. What's up with that?

Gorillas don't drink milk, where are they getting their calcium.

Pretty sure the general rule is "someone's" grandparents. Tofu has been a staple in Asian diets for almost two thousand years. Soy milk? Not so much.

You think every Chinese person has access to a Whole Foods where they can get premium calcium-fortified soy milk? Hell no. Chinese are calcium-deficient, period, even though that's slowly changing. You can't even buy cheese when you're over there.

#1 and #2 are probably right. #3 is crap due to cultural bias. Drinking cow's milk at 50 is normal in non-European cultures. Then it might be water buffalo or horse milk.

Whole Foods? Premium soy milk? Bwa hah hah hah hah! It can be bought at freakin' Walmart or a regular grocery store, dude. Way to make it sound all fancy. "Ooh, only that $20 a quart soy milk has the calcium in it. Damn those rich hippies, why do they hate all that is good and pure?"
In the region I used to live in, soy milk was cheaper than the damn cow milk.

After trying a dozen different varieties of soy milk, I found one I could tolerate (Silk DHA Omega-3), which is good since I can't tolerate cow milk.

"Finally, line a colander with pressing cloth such as a flour sack towel, piece of cotton muslin, or a nutmilk bag and press out all liquid using a potato masher."

Already been alluded to, but seriously: a "nutmilk bag"? A "NUTMILK BAG"?

Too many soy milks use lots of sweetener. I hate Silk because of this.

Ever tried the hemp milk? It tastes quite like regular milk but it can be expensive. Good omega 3 and protein in it.

I grew up on raw goats milk, myself.

#3 is a scientific fact. I'm not sure how you think I'm slipping some sort of cultural bias in there. If humans stop drinking milk they stop being able to process milk. Mammals produce milk for their own babies. Look at literally every other species on the planet and tell me it's not unusual for humans to be drinking milk beyond infancy.

Almond milk is in fact the only milk substitute I can stand. And chocolate almond milk is like drinking a watered down candy bar. Almond milk also pairs with chai quite nicely.,
