Fox is dumb and ignorant because many Americans are okay with that and accept it as truth

Peter von Nostrand: Fox is dumb and ignorant because many Americans are okay with that and accept it as truth

People are interested in believing a narrative that fits into their personal political beliefs. Fox uses that in spades. A Fox News viewer believes Fox, because Fox is the only thing that makes sense to them. It reassures them that they really aren't as stupid as everyone else thinks they are because the people on the TV news agree with them!

I can't really deny what she has to say because it's pretty much the truth. So I guess I'll try to dismiss her as a "bad shiat crazy actress" and see if anyone notices.

I think all of you are losing sight of the most important factor here: Ellen Barkin was really hot in her day, and not only that, she got naked in her movies, as can be seen here, for example (link is NSFW). So there's that.

2011-11-08 02:33:09 AM
Credentials aside (and she's got about as much of those for politics as any of us).. I don't really disagree with anything she said.

You can't say Fox News is lying about anything, because they are clearly part of News Corp's Entertainment division.

Fox News is so full of truthiness that they went to the Florida Supreme Court over the matter (new window).

Oh, did I say truthiness? My mistake.

Overlooking the blatant sexisim and/or homophobia in your post, while that is true in some cases, no other news network does it anywhere close to the extent that fox does it, and other networks do not flat out lie to score partisan points. Hate on Rachel Maddow all you want, but she backs up what she says with actual citations. You know, verifiable facts.

While, as other posters have mentioned, fox has gone to court to defend their right to flat out lie and call it news.

Some organizations look at objective reality through a certain ideological lens, true. But Fox takes their ideology and cooks up lies to justify it. False equivalence is false.

You know what I've noticed Maddow doing a few times that I've never, ever, ever even heard of on Fox?

Offer corrections.

Ya know, "Hey, we said something that wasn't true last night and got a lot of hate mail and got called on it, so here's what's true." kinda thing.

I lost all respect for t.v. news when Dan Rather pushed a falsified memo, got caught, then refused to back down insisting that even though the memo was fake, the story was still true. It probably would have killed me outright if Walter Cronkite ever lied on the air. And no, I don't watch Fox News. These days, I don't see any difference between network news and the tabloids.

Depends on the frequency. Ask Kenneth.

And worse, defending a propaganda network that lies like a 24/7 in defense of a president who lied the way human exhale. But, yeah, Rather's the villain, not the cokehead war criminal who stole at least 1 presidential election. How dare his integrity be questioned!

OK, setting aside the the whole Fox News thing, the "someone who couldn't quite prove what he was saying" part is laughable on it's face: Dan Rather got handed a blatant forgery, and ran with it because it could have effected the outcome of the presidential election that was less than two months away. He even contacted the Kerry Campaign about it before airing it, for Christ's sake (the Kerry people distanced themselves from it, wisely). And it's not like Dan Rather didn't let his biases creep into his reporting: Of all the mainstream anchors at the time, he was the most blatantly biased towards the left. It's so bad, that after he left, CBS News actually swung more to the middle, to distance themselves from him. For instance, they are the only mainstream news organization reporting on the "Fast and Furious" Guns-to-Mexican-Cartels scandal, something that would have been actively suppressed by Rather.

If you believe the Fox News narrative, you're either stupid or delusional. I hate to make it that hardline, but it's true. They've claimed that Obama is a socialist, implied he's stolen the election, claimed the "Ground Zero mosque" was funded by a terrorist, claimed liberals are trying to eliminate Christmas, claimed belief in global warming is a malevolent conspiracy, claimed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, claimed Saddam had ties to al Qaeda, etc, etc, etc, etc...

The people running the network and most of their major shows are professional liars.

Yeah, but since they lie all the time it's ok. That was Rathers biggest problem, he'd told the truth for so long one mistake ruined him. He should have just bullshiatted people from the start, that way he could get away with it.

Well let's see, we know Rather did, and MSDNC & the like do every day.
