This is just one example of what's happening to our country since the repeal of the Jim Crow laws.

The dinosaurs have just been hibernating through 65 million years of cool climates. As temperatures rise, they will burst forth from their cold-weather shells and again reclaim the Earth.

People are much larger today as well. Must be global warming.

2011-11-08 07:22:41 AM
Even our birds are getting fatter. What is wrong with our country?

MyNameIsMofuga: Even our birds are getting fatter. What is wrong with our country?

Funny you should mention this. I have an uninfomed opinion that the two are related. The same bioengineering of our food supply that is making us larger (not fatter, really, thats some other cause, but LARGER bulk wise) as a people is probably responsible for the birds getting bigger. The birds eat the same grain and fruit we do, they just steal it form the farmers feilds when the scarecrow isnt looking. The worms, bugs, and nematodes birds eat are superworms and superbugs compared to the past, due to the over use of pesticides.

/okay, its far fetched, but its less far fetched than being an effect of "global warming" that even the proponents of admit hasnt yet occurred to any significant extent.

Global warming now causes decreased generational time scales to bring about evolutionary change?

bigger birds means bigger wings. Bigger winds create a bigger breeze. That breeze is working to cool the planet.

All is good.

2011-11-08 08:32:50 AM
....or you know, it could just be evolution..... maybe the food supply is more abundant... I have a feeling there are a large number of factors that contribute. I find it interesting that this article goes for "Global warming causes critters to GET BIGGER !!!!

2011-11-08 08:37:23 AM
And, of course, it's perhaps slightly possible that humans haven't been monitoring the average size of wild birds for very long or in very great numbers, and such small changes in average size might occur in resposne to much longer cycles or unknown factors completely unrelated to average temperature. Is every observed phenomenon now going to be linked to global warming even though no mechanism is evident?

Very small database is very small.

I suspect cats exert a more significant selective pressure in this country than climate change

Increased body mass in response to more frequent storms? Really? let's see some stats on storms first before you start spouting certitudes like that.
