I like the Burning Log show but I don't think you could confuse it with the real thing unles you were pretty medicated. It is great when you travel to Germany, have jet lag and just can not get to sleep. BTW Germany has a bunch of insomniac channels. One has a camera pointed at a fish bowl (don't forget to feed the fish). Another is called Space Flight where all that is shown is scenes from the space shuttle (don't leave the room or the vaccuum of space will kill you). Another show is the view from the front of a Ubahn train (wait until the train stops before you leave the room).

The Germans are only now getting around to showing that? In Quebec Television Quatre-Saisons (then a sucky network, now I'm not sure) used to show that between 3 and 7am, at least 10 years ago!

They had other variations on that same theme, such as an aquarium.

Here I always thought the Germans were so technically advanced. Did they import Kraftwerk from, like, France or something?

I remember as a kid seeing WPIX-TV in NYC broadcasting a fireplace picture every Christmas Eve. Always thought it would be fundamentally sad to be living in a house watching a frickin' *TV* because I didn't have a fireplace.

my roommate came in to see if i was okay, because i was crying, laughing so hard... damn...

One time during finals week at college, I had all but one of my finals in the first two days and the last one was an essay test that I didn't really need to study for.

So, I went to the library and got a book for pleasure reading and curled up on an easy chair for hours. They had a small tv set in the wall next to it showing one of these burning log videos. It was amazing how many people came by to tell me the fire wasn't real.

I think this lost humor in my retelling. My apologies.

Try dousing it with brandy.

But sometimes it's good, like then that German toddler was abandoned for two months and survived by eating food that kept appearing on TV.

And to comment on the "Old people couldn't mistake that" theory. Most old people would know enough to stay away from the fire, but wouldn't hesistate to call to complain about something.
