Yay! We finally have all that freedom Foxnews and the Teaparty have been demanding!

Well that was odd.

I hadn't really taken their side until I saw this. This is police-state crap, and looks like something out of Half-Life.

Regardless of the point that they are trying to make, this is ridiculous. It goes right to a real-life tin-foil hat scenario. Shot in the leg at 10 yards after several uneventful seconds(and after having asked permission("Is This Okay?")), with no obvious provocation.

That's a fine police force you've bought yourselves there, 1%.

Citizen, you have more freedom in this country than in any country on Earth. And we'll restrict any of them that we want to to keep you free.

Trouble's abrewing.

Is it legal for police to shoot photographers in a public place simply because they do not want to be photographed?

I can answer that. The law says that when the police declare an unlawful assembly and give the order to disperse, you leave. That means you, hippie. Does this guy think he's exempt, just because he's a blogger?

I for one enjoy living in a fascist police state.

2011-11-07 09:00:25 PM
I'm continually surprised that people are expecting proper behavior from the Oakland PD.

Skinnyhead is obsessed with this idea of "unlawful assembly" -- he throws those two words around constantly, no matter what was actually going on at the scene.

Part of me is wondering if he is an Oakland cop, the way he is defending them due to all of this "unlawful assembly"

What is the law on assembly anyway? It would seem to me that the first amendment would allow any type of assembly so long as it's peaceful. How can cops or city officials block a group of people that want to gather in one place?

I wonder if there's a way to weaponize a Slip 'n Slide for crowd dispersal.

Maybe a Crocodile Mile would be easier.

Yeah no shiat. That's farking ridiculous.

Though it really speaks more to how awful the Oakland PD is, than to anything about Wall Street, banks, income disparity, or whatever other points they're trying to make.

But yeah. I'd love to read the incident report the guy who fired that round filed.

//or lack thereof
//cop needs to be identified

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Man, this country is headed for a serious adjustment.

I'm not a commie or a socialist, but wow, the cops have got to learn that they are OUR servants, and power is derived from the masses, not the other way around.

This is the USA, not China, France, or even Greece. We have the power, not the government.

What's always mystifying in this situations is the mindlessness of the cops. They need to wake up, this isn't a police state, even though they might think that it is.

I might be feeding a troll here, but oh well.

Lets say that this guy wasn't leaving. My best friend is currently finishing up in the police academy and there's a little something in place called "escalation of force." The force you use is directly related to the threat you face. Police officers are allowed to basically use one step up in force based on the situation. There needs to be a threat of violence though. Simply walking around far from the police line is not something that requires a defense.

Are you advocating that any time someone breaks the law, even if he is not causing an immediate threat to safety, he can be shot in response? Do you think every time the police put somebody under arrest, they shoot/tase/pepper spray first? As long as there is no resist of arrest or immediate danger to public safety, use of force cannot be used.

Well, it seems the Foxnews and TeaParty people are all standing behind the cops on this because they are shooting people that have a different ideology than they do.

Freedom is fine, as long as you believe what we do.

I just hope that the movement doesn't lose focus and starts just hating police and forgets the reason they were out there in the first place.

Oakland PD seem to be especially good at targeting vets and reporters.

The new Fark design makes it super-easy to ignore trolls such as skinnyhead. Just click on the img.fark.net on something he posts and it will turn to img.fark.net and you will have any direct experience his keyboard masturbations. (you may have to go to your profile and set things up so you can see his headers but not his content).

Trolls like him are like a flasher who like the fact that he at least gets some attention by exposing his pathetic junk to school girls even if the attention is just disgust.
